Deep frying oil....???

Ok so thanksgiving is coming up, We deep fry our turkey with an indoor xxl butterball turkey fryer (BEST INVESTMENT EVER!!!!) lol
We usually splurge and purchase a big vat from one of our local big box stores of peanut oil, and we usually get 2 fills from the deep fryer. (we keep it filled for about a month and use it here and there and strain as needed)
It seems as though this has gone up over the year, and they are running about hmmm $40.00 for the giant jug?
Does anyone deep fry with other oils? I won't use corn or vegetable oil because even if I'm eating off plan for the holiday I am using it other times also.
Does anyone fry with avocado oil since it has such a high smoke point? Can you even deep fry with it? I was thinking if there was any perks to that..
Anyone else have an oil they deep fry in that doesn't break the bank? it holds 2.75 gallons.

Queen, just want to be sure. You are saying you reuse the oil that the turkey has been fried in? If so, I can understand why you want a healthier oil than corn or vegetable.

All the better oils are going to be expensive. No way to get around that.
Ghee would be even more expensive and I doubt you could reuse it after frying a turkey in it.

I don't fry turkey; we don't even like turkey anymore - we use chicken, including capon, instead. If it were me, I'd just buy just enough of the vegetable, corn, or safflower oil and plan to use it only the one time for the turkey and then discard it.

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear. Sigh...

lol its ok.
I would say we use the oil once a week for a few weeks.. Maybe I will just go with the cheaper oil.. Hubby and I worked out the math and we would need 8 jugs of avocado oil (they come in 34oz bottles) and my deep fryer is 2 gal.

Extra-light olive oil might work - Costco sells it in big containers. It has a high smoke point (468*, which is actually higher than peanut oil!); another one to consider would be refined coconut oil, smoke point there is 400* to 450* smoke point - sometimes you can buy it by the gallon for a good price.

Do a Google for "smoke points deep frying oils" or something similar, that should give you your options for the best oils with the highest smoke points.
