Happy Saturday everyone,

Well I’m holding steady. I suspect it is because of all the sodium in the boullion and all the water I’ve been drinking. I have been 100% at induction levels every day and don’t have much of an appetite now. Keto sticks are dark purple! One of these days I’m sure a whoosh will come.

January Goal: 145

Jan 1 - 151.6
Jan 2 - 150.4
Jan 3 - 150.0
Jan 4 - 148.9
Jan 5 - 148.9
Jan 6 - 149.0

B - SF energy drink
L - chicken thigh, beef boullion
D - Sous Vide ribeye
S - SF jello squares with whipped cream

Quick check in today.

Jan 6 - 162.4

I've not really had much of an appetite, just trying to eat enough to get my strength up.

Hi everybody,

I’ve been obsessing over staying on plan this time around. Had a change of plans for my dinner today. I made keto jalapeŮo popper soup and will have the ribeye tomorrow. I have diligently stayed at or below 20-30 total carbs every day. I’m enjoying the smaller appetite and reduced cravings already. But normally when I really start over on keto, I lose 5-7lb in the first week. This time around I seem to be stalled already. And I swear I haven’t been this focused probably since last May. I did get the sugar free 0 calorie Powerade and the keto flu symptoms are much better today. However, I’ve been drinking a ton and I don’t feel like I’m running to the bathroom any more often than usual. I am expecting TOM next week and really feel like I’m retaining all the water I’m taking in. I feel good but really want to see that scale drop! I know I’m doing everything else right!

Good morning everyone,

Well as my prior post indicated, I’m really not sure what the deal is with my stall so soon; I know I’m doing things right, getting enough fat, no hidden carbs, not going overboard on calories, etc. My ketostix are still dark purple and I haven’t had any cheats all week. I’m optimistic that eventually the losses will start up again but I didn’t expect it to stall so soon.

Jan 3 - 150.0
Jan 4 - 148.9

Jan 7 - 149.8

B - black coffee, cream cheese pancake, bacon
L - leftover jalapeŮo popper soup
D - Sous Vide ribeye
S - SF jello squares with whipped cream; beef boullion

hi, Kelly - stay strong and hang in there... Remember that it won't happen as quickly this time around... Your body is resisting letting go, but hold to the plan because you feel good and you know it's better for you. Maybe shake it up with a fat fast, some IF or eliminating something for a few days. You know that going on and off plan isn't healthy or productive. Hang in there - you've got this!

Even though I am happy that the scale keeps dropping, I know that as soon as I get my appetite back the scale may go back up a bit. I have been eating low carb but just very little calories. Yesterday I had two eggs in the morning and then some ground beef with cheddar in the afternoon. I feel hungry but as soon as I start eating I lose my appetite.

hi, Cathy. It's OK to lose your appetite when you're sick - stick to things like bone broth with some butter and salt added (I use Mortons lite salt). Then as your appetite returns, keep it clean/low carb and the bump on the scale will be minimal, and I wouldn't be surprised if you maintained much of the loss you have experienced.

Casey - as always thank you for the great advice! I haven’t had any cheats or carb creep this week since I started and I do feel good in that regard. My body just feels cleaner. I actually feel thinner which is why the stall on the scale is so weird! But I definitely know turning back to carbs isn’t the answer. I want this time to be the LAST time I restart! I am going to look into doing a fat fast!

hi, Ameenah, Susan and Pam!

Susan- it's good that you're putting it behind you and not letting that 15 grow to 20, 30+.

Pam - stay strong and on plan - you're down from the beginning of the year. Hope you can get the pain under control - that affects so much, especially mentally.

Ameenah - you are also down from the beginning of the year, and you're doing everything right - your whoosh is coming!

Happy Monday everyone,

Well, still no relief from this annoying stall, but I'm sticking to plan. I do feel really good now that I'm in ketosis. Just want my clothes to be a little less snug and I'll be happy.

Ameenah - nice work, first weekend back on plan in the books for us both! I do love having the drop in appetite and reduced cravings again!

Pam - I'm sorry to hear about your continued pain. Good luck at the doctor today.

Susan - don't worry, you're not alone! I, too had a similar gain from being completely off plan for the past several months. Honestly I have struggled to really get back on plan and stay there since my vacation last June, but I really went off the rails starting in October with my surgery and then just continued on through the holidays. It feels good to really be back on the road to staying on track.

Alene - KUTGW!

Everyone else -

Hi all! I'm at work still trying to get caught up after missing most of last week. My appetite is still nil, and I know I need to eat because my body is so weak. I am going to swing by the grocery store tonight on my way home and get some salad fixings. I haven't had many veggies over the last 8 days and I need them.

Hi Everyone

Iím posting this here as well as in the new members introduction bit as I would like to join this January challenge.

Iíve decided to start on Atkins as Iíve recently started having steroid injections for eczema as well as having PCOS and hypothyroidism. I need to lose between 15 to 20 kg but tbh, Iíd be happy with 1 kg! I just gave up smoking (today is my 7th smoke free day) and I stopped eating anything with added sugar on New Yearís Day, so Iím ready (ish) to take the next step which is going low carb. Sadly since giving up sugar, Iíve eaten quite a bit of whole grain bread with hummus so although Iíve lost a bit of weight since going sugar free, itís only about half a kilo! Still, better off than on .

My biggest concern about Atkins is the no milk thing. Iíve managed to get my tea consumption down to 4/5 cups per day and can almost bear it without the 1 sweetener that Iíve been using since I weaned myself off sugar 22 years ago (and whole milk too! Now I canít stomach whole milk, itís waaaay too rich and creamy) but Iíve tried the whole staying off milk and just adding cream and I really canít drink it. Iím struggling to find an alternative hot beverage that is as comforting as tea or just an alternative thatís not just water.

Letís face it, most people donít leap out of bed and rush to the kitchen thinking ďooo I canít wait for my glass of water with my breakfastĒ (apologies in advance to anyone reading this who does think that!). I just feel that Iíve done so well in giving up the added sugar (right up till midnight on NYE I was still drinking Pepsi and it wasnít diet or max either!) and I really want to give this low carb my best shot, but coffee isnít an option and I donít like fruit or herbal teas (possibly for the same reason I donít drink juice or cordial, I just never have liked it, even as a child). Any suggestions gratefully received

Hi Shaz,

Welcome! I'm not a tea drinker myself, and I'm not sure how much milk you're used to adding to your tea, but as far as the "creamer" goes... what if you added cream, but just a very small amount so you didn't notice such a distinct creaminess? I suppose if all else fails, unless you are trying to be 100% by the book, you could probably try to consume your tea with a small amount of whatever milk you prefer and see if you still lose weight. I can't imagine a little bit of milk in tea is going to prevent you from being successful. I have had success on LCHF, but I don't follow any specific plan or rules to a tee, I just try to stay below 20g carbs per day! You'll find many of us on this board, despite the name being Atkins Induction, follow a wide range of eating plans, not just Atkins. But we are all LCHF!

As for alternative hot beverages, you mentioned coffee isn't an option for you. I recently discovered drinking broth is very comforting (and helps with the low carb flu!). Maybe give that a try?

Anyway, we're glad you're here!

Good afternoon all!!!!! I got off work at 7am and went to bed. Woke up at noon NOT HUNGRY!!!!! Wow I canít believe my appetite is gone??!! But I had to make myself eat so I could take my vitamins and not get nauseated. I feel pretty good and Iím determined to stick with this. Gotta take my spouse out to doctor now but will post more later.

I didnít weigh myself this weekend and donít plan to for awhile. Iím gonna just go by how my clothes fit and how I feel. I know myself and if I weigh and find that I havenít lost any, I will get so discouraged and then I might want to give up! Iíve done that in the past many, many times. I want this to work this time.

Gayandgray - I so know what you mean. I am getting really discouraged with basically no movement on the scale especially with how strict Iíve been. I am thisclose to diving into a bag of m&ms!

Hi everyone, so great to be back with you all, and hello to the new members. This group is great, always so encouraging.

Im enjoying the water weight whoosh from being back to induction, really wanting to get in that good mindset. I looked back, amd on Oct. 1 I hit my all time low of 153.3. Boy, did I undo that progress quickly! But I really really want to get back there, so I just have to stay focused.

I think I may have cracked the tea thing! Iced tea!! It’s low carb compared to “normal” tea, doesn’t need additional sweetener and maybe it will be a good way to “kick” my tea habit. I just want to take things slowly as most important is the not smoking rather than weight loss so I don’t want to derail that in any way. It’s a typical WA summer so at least drinking cold drinks isn’t hard when the morning temps are nearly 30C or 86F if you’re American.

Apropos nothing, I did my shopping and veg prepped. The red pepper looked so good, I couldn’t resist a bit and OMG, it was soooo sweet. Like chocolate but better cos it didn’t leave that mangy coating in my mouth that chocolate does (I’m not a big chocolate fan!).

I think tomorrow’s breakfast will be interesting. I will start induction and have no tea and no muesli (since I discovered soaking it in skim milk overnight, I’m hooked. It’s got no sugar and is so delicious!).

I’ll let you all know how I go :-)
