January Daily or Alternate Day Weigh-in

We've lived through 2017 and are welcoming 2018 after all of the late 2017 festivities. Superbowl and Valentines Day are fast approaching. JUDDD allows us to treat such occasions as part of the rhythm of our lives, and opportunities to apply what we know and choose to look forward to celebrations and seasonal events.

You know the drill, JBs - this is where we announce our goals for the month and we report the results of our daily or alternate day weigh-ins. Dr Johnson recommends weekly weigh-ins for preference, but for those of us who prefer more regular feedback than that he advises that we or others who are demoralised by bouncing should practise alternate day weigh-ins, after a DD.

We have weekly weigh-ins for those who prefer those: https://lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=885767

Classic weigh-in post about scale bouncing on UD and DD: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/sh...d.php?t=786559

Why Scales Can Lie: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/sh...d.php?t=544425

Please, always remember, the scale is the least informative way of tracking the changes in our bodies when we follow a fasting lifestyle: we do it because it's a readily accessible proxy for those changes. How you feel, changes in the fit of your clothes, changes in photographs you monitor, improvements in blood pressure etc. are much better indicators. Yoni Freedhoff has a classic posts about what real world weight loss looks like over time: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/sh...f#post17150890

And, seriously, if weigh-in numbers are likely to influence your mood, think very seriously about using something else to assess your progress. The number on the scale is context-free and is influenced by so many factors that can mask progress: use a piece of clothing; measure in several places; use regular photographs from several angles (same clothes, lighting conditions etc.); track your health.

My goal is to continue to maintain within my range of 100-108lbs, allowing for my usual excursions relating to pain management, muscle swelling, fluid shifts etc. Overall my goal is to maintain my body fat level somewhere between 20-25%.

01 Jan. 111.2lbs UD

I am so ready to be reliably <110lbs again and on on a downward path to my comfortable range (102-105lbs). However, I'm loosening my approach to this because my approach can not be to eat less food. I need to grit my teeth and see whether improving the vitamin D status and my sleep will make it easier for me to manage my day to day and then re-examine my body composition and weight.

I was planning on asking who was interested in doing a group water (or zero-cal) fast this month. Maybe next week. Was thinking 3 or 4 days. Maybe 5, though in my experience the cost : benefit ratio diminishes after 4 days. Day 5 is just nice because by that time I'm not really hunger. Day 3 is IMO the hungry day.

What are your thoughts?

I love it! I would love the company!!! And will need the support. I am starting tomorrow but will go into next week. I am planning 7 days but will end at any point that I feel crappy or if I just feel done. I'll post in your challenge thread my water fast results. Being accountable is key for me!

Alas we are probably not in sync this time (I am on my third day of three days). But I may join in with you again next Monday and Tuesday if you are still fasting. Please do post in the challenge thread. I am eager to hear your day to day experiences with hunger, etc., and of course to share my own copious experiences and thoughts! I'm most curious to know if you've done this before, and what your anticipated goals are. Good luck!

My goal is to continue to maintain within my range of 100-108lbs, allowing for my usual excursions relating to pain management, muscle swelling, fluid shifts etc. Overall my goal is to maintain my body fat level somewhere between 20-25%.

01 Jan. 111.2lbs DD
02 Jan. 109.2lbs UD
03 Jan. 109.4lbs DD
04 Jan. 109.2lbs UD
