Pamela's Not Xanthan Not Guar

Has anyone used this? It contains potato starch and psyllium. It says its a "baking binder", but I'm wondering if it could be used as a thickening agent...a less slimy alternative to Thick It Up, for sauces and gravy.

TIA!

The site claims its a thickener for gluten free baking, so it sounds like it should work..
It seems to have one carb per serving. I'm not sure how much a serving is though since the site I found didn't state it.

I bought a bag, so I'll give it a try. Though it says on the bag to use 1 - 2 tsp. per cup of gluten free flour, on the bag a "serving" is 1/4 tsp. with 1 calories and <1 carb.

I'll try it next time I'm making a sauce, and report back.

Try glucomannan powder for thickening sauces. It doesn't have a slimy mouth feel but it only takes a TINY bit. First time I tried to use it, I used as much as I would with cornstarch. You could cut my gravy into chunks and eat it with a fork! Netrition has it in an 8 oz jar for $10 or in a 1lb bag for $17. You use it a quarter teaspoon at a time, so it isn't really that expensive. I keep it in a spice shaker on the stove and sprinkle a little in, check it and then sprinkle a little more. It thickens hot or cold foods, and only takes less than a minute to thicken.

For gravy/sauce I start with about a quarter teaspoon...hard to tell because I keep it in a spice shaker and just shake a bit on and give it about a minute, and if it needs a little more, I give it another shake. It has a natural mouth feel, not slimy like the gums. It doesn't take much. I bought a one pound bag and I figure it is a lifetime supply LOL.

Nigel, no I haven't tried it yet. Recently I needed to thicken something and I tried Sharon's glucommanan shaker idea, and that worked really well...I just kept sprinkling and stirring until it was the right consistency, no guess work.
