Intermittent Fasting - 2018!!

Hi everyone!! I have been here on the boards a few times in the past...but I just restarted Low Carb on this last Sunday, January 7th, 2018. And starting intermittent fasting 16:8 today! (First time fasting).

I hope others can let me know progress they are having with IF and successes! I am very excited about this way of life! I have been through a lot last year, well actually, last 4 years, physically, and I know this is my time. Thus is the year. I will not fail. Because I know, if I could quit what I quit last year, I can do anything.

So please all, I can't wait to keep enjoying this trip with everyone and look forward to your positive comments and posts!!

Much love!

Amber 273/250/175 ✌️✌️✌️

I am looking into this as well. I watched a couple of Dr. Berg's videos. Any other info I should check out?

I do a minimum of 16:8. I used to be one of those people that forced myself to eat breakfast because 'they' said you were supposed to. Now I simply eat when I am ready (which is usually around 1PM) and then I make sure I am done with my evening snack by 9PM. Easy peasy.

Once I got that in a routine, I found it easy to even go 18:6 or 20:4 sometimes by eating my snack earlier. I think it has helped boost my rate of weight loss in combination with my LC WOE.

Awesome - how are all your results with the IF? Have you all done it from the beginning of going low carb?

I find the minute I tell anyone I'm doing IF they are quick to judge...I guess it's something I can only share here!

My first full day of doing it went great, I actually felt really alert the last couple hours of it.

Thx for the link PrincessBrendag, I'm going to take a look st it now! I find myself obsessing with watching YouTube vids of the journey of other IFers!

I tried IF but didn't stick with it. I was getting good results though. I'll give it another go by eating between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. I only get into trouble if I eat anything after 7:00 p.m. anyway!

Maria527- yes I hear and see the good results with IF, it sure is a change in a system of estimated. I find I usually fast normally, but end maybe 3 hours earlier then my 16:8. I think it's kind if like working out, where when we push a little more, work a little harder then we get even more amazing results!

I did low carb for the first 3 months and then LC/OMAD for the remaining 6 months...I didnt lose more by doing that but the reason I changed to IF was because I can eat a lot at one time so to just have one meal was the best choice for me

sounds a lot like my story, started Keto and over about six weeks I narrowed my meals down to just one which made the fat come off quicker. when I started extended fasting on week ends weight started melting off this last month or so. 40 lbs since thanksgiving. I try to not go too crazy and walk a fine line but I feel good and no fainting spells or anything adverse. just staying true to my process that I have been following weekly, don't fix what is not broke

I've been doing 16/8 intermittent fasting since 10/1. I can't believe how well it's working for me. I still have a ways to go with keto, but I finally get that it's not about the calories. My weight has really stabilized since I've been doing IF. And my cravings are GONE!

I have been doing the 16:8 for about 10 days now. It was hard at first but I am now settling in. I find I am not hungry and do not obsess over food. I only weigh myself twice a month so I don't know the pounds lost, but it is substantial. I can tell by the way my clothes are fitting.

So exciting to see all your results from IF,

Brenda - I must check into Omad because I don't know much about that type of fasting. Which IF are you doing now? 16/8 etc..? I am sane with the one meal thing, that's why I'm now changing to 18/6, it's easier for me to just deal with k e meal and a couple lil snacks.

Jshaf - soooooo amazing 40lbs!! I feel I need to stick with my 16/8 or just changed to 18/6 because I dont think I could do the whole weekend because I am extremely active in my job, it's very physically taxing. I think I need food for it lol!

Shirl , Stevie - I love that clothes are looser and craving are gone! I find that my face has shrunk since suddenly yesterday! Lol It's crazy how you'll just be chugging along then bam! something very noticeable happens. I love it

What I love most about IF is just knowing that the longer I push thru the hours of not eating, until eating again, that I'm just burning pure fat. And eating no sugar as well, it's doing double work!!

I have started intermittent fasting/OMAD on the day after Thanksgiving. I fast for a minimum of 22 hours daily with only water, black coffee, or black tea. No artificial sweeteners at all during the fast. In my one meal a day I have anything I want. No more counting calories or carbs. I probably could lose more if I watched my carbs, and it was a struggle to get back to allowing myself to eat carbs again. A good book on the subject is "Delay Don't Deny" by Gin Stephens. She also wrote a book called "Feast Without Fear", and has 2 facebook groups. This plan has changed my life! If I stall I will probably do low carb as my one meal a day and am glad to have learned the ins and outs of low carb from this group.

Welcome @scintillady

I'm in maintenance but I lost 3 pounds this week...I'm trying to reach a lower weight so that I can have more wiggle room in my maintenance range...My plan was OMAD everyday and 4 of those days were low carb

I'm here sorta because I accidentally got into a not eating day (so far) Up at 7, and it's 9 hours later. I'm not sure I'll eat later, or wait till tomorrow. It's 4PM now, and I usually eat between 5 and 7PM. I just had a cup of cocoa with butter and coconut oil, a bit of stevia.

I also just came from the grocery store with fresh shrimp, baked chicken, and 3 cheeses: cream, gouda, and fontinella, brocolli and cauliflower. If I DO eat, which is the better to start on?

My goal at this point is to give away the excess fat and mass so that the clothes the next size down hang loosely on me.
I used to have a tendency to eat more than needed, but i have not been recently.
I don't know what will happen if I do eat tonight. I'll wait to eat until close to bedtime.
So what is the better to start with--the shrimp or the (now cold) baked chicken?
Any thoughts?

I work on my feet a lot, work as a drive thru teller at a bank, three lanes so I am up and down moving constantly. and usually walk at lunch time to boot. have no problems doing 24 hr fasts daily. and knocking out 48 or 72 hr extended fasts is doable for me. will do a 72 hr one this week end after doing a 48 last week end. just do pink salt and water, will even get in an hour+ walk on Saturday morning.

I started this Jan 24, 2018, 7:00 AM. (More accurately, the night before, so several hours earlier. I didn't have breakfast on the 24th.) It's 25 hours later. I had a TBSP ACV in 1/4 c water earlier. I'm on my first cup of cocoa today, this time with more coconut oil than butter, and no stevia. I am somewhat hungry, so I'm having cocoa. So far, so good.

I am looking at IF the 18/6 version.

Question - people keep talking about the different things that they may drink - I thought it had to be calorie/nutrient free to be considered a fast.

It depends how strict you want to be and what results/benefits you are looking for.

In the strict definition, anything other than water breaks a fast. Not even black coffee or zero calorie sweeteners are allowed. Most people aren’t that strict and most are just interested in weight loss so they allow a few things like coffee/tea/broth/cream.

Saturday I had 1/2 c cottage cheese about 2PM then about 6, had some baked chicken--leg and thigh, followed with ~1/4 cup sauteed chicken. A cup of cocoa later, and to bed about 9:30. If I do eat today, it will be low carb for the most part. Then, I do want to fast again. I do feel better, with a bit more energy which is interesting, as I've basically been eating low carb for months.

The thought that I'm definitely in serious fat burning mode at the end of my fasting period has always been very motivating to me. I have done OMAD for years (tho mostly not this last year, getting back to it now) and sometimes that thought would carry me through a whole second day.

I'm so jealous. Ive tried to make IF work without low carb and I always crash and burn. I think I really rely on the fat/ketones to get me through.
