New Low Carb Milk made from Peas!!

I bought this at Target today and I like it!! I like it better than almond milk. I did add a wee bit of sweetener and a dash of salt, but its fine without the additions.

Nope.Not at all.

Charski, I bought the original unsweetened one. It has 80 calories, 5 grams fat, 0 carbs.

The others are sweetened.

I guess this is a thing now. There's another company set to introduce its pea milk in 2017.

Tulips, the stats I copied/pasted are directly from their website for the unsweetened version. Yeah, I looked at the others, they do have sugar in them so a no-go.

I'm gonna keep an eye out for this though.

Currently, I'm used the cashew/almond/coconut milk, which is 45 calories for a cup. It's also unsweetened and very neutral-flavored and has a nice mouthfeel. There are times when I'd like something with 8 grams of protein though like that pea milk has!

I don't understand the ingredients list. Where are the peas? And what is providing the protein?

My local Target carries that. I might pick up a bottle and try some baked egg custard. Almond milk clots when I make custard, and I don't want the calories from whipped cream.

Their website is divided with the ingredients, they mention the pea protein powder on there but it's not included in that ingredients listing, for some odd reason.

Fortunately MSG is not something that bothers me so I don't have to watch out for it - in fact, I ADD it to my favorite homemade salad dressing, LOL! I use ajinimoto which is just the Japanese packaging of it.

Not to discount YOUR reason, or anyone's, for avoiding it, but I think a lot of that stuff gets so blown out of proportion - obviously, those who are allergic to it or have migraines attributed to its use or other health issues need to know where it is hidden so as to not ingest it though.

Well the macros look really good and that's a good amount of protein per cup, so I will definitely pick it up.

It was on sale at Target. Not sure how long the sale will last. It was $2.57 for 48 oz. I don't remember how much the regular price is. I think it was 3something.

The bottle I have lists pea protein in the ingredients.

Here's an excerpt from a blog that reviewed it.

It took a year to turn peas into something delicious. "The primary challenge is one of flavor," Lowry says. "If you just make pea milk the way that you make almond milk, with regular yellow peas, you can get a very high protein beverage, but it frankly tastes terrible. That's because if you put a lot of peas in the milk, it's going to taste like peas."

The startup company developed a technology, now in the process of patenting, that can "separate the good stuff from the peas from all of the stuff that kind of gives it that off-flavor and color," he says. The resulting milk still has all of the protein, but the pea taste is gone.

I just found the pea protein milk by Ripple (unsweetened version) at my local Kroger.
Had previously tried another brand whose name I forget. Did not care for it. Too much of a bean flavor.

The Ripple is quite good. 70 calories a cup, 8 grams of protein, and ZERO carbs - plus more calcium than regular milk.
Very neutral flavor so I think it will work well in savory soups and sauces.

I tasted it plain and was surprised I could actually drink it "straight".
I heated a cup of it, added a splash of real vanilla, and a bit of sweetener. Very nice, though in its heated state with the cup right under my nostrils, I could smell just a wee bit of the pea aroma. Nothing off-putting though.

This will probably become my regular non-dairy, low carb milk.

Now I've heard everything!! LOL I actually like peas, but my mind cannot accept peas=milk.

If you look up the nutrition in peas, there is actually 8.8gm of protein in a cup of peas.

It is so interesting how different our tastebuds can be. After reading so many great reviews, I tried it. It was maybe the most awful thing I have ever tried. That said, my kid loved it.

It's sooo true. I only have a Wallie here..I have tried pea protein stuff and it wasn't that great. Willing to give the milk a try if I find it.
