Frances!! I feel this is the year for me too!

Eating out is a challenge, isn't it?! But it's hard to avoid completely these days!

I did my first test run meal on keto today, to test how my body will react to the drastic change in added fat and also whether the amount of fat in the food would be palatable.

I tracked all my macros on a tracker they were 3% carbs 75% fat and 22% protein, which was the best I could do.

It was surprisingly very tasty and did not feel greasy at all. However, I don't drink coffee, i do drink a lot of decaf tea so I tried to make bulletproof decaf earl grey and that did not go well.

We have another keto meal test planned for dinner, just trying to figure out the how to get the right ratio of macros. Cutting carbs out is simple (been on-off Induction eating for years). Adding fat is more of a challenge!

Wow for 10lbs down just by cutting back on dairy! I haven't read why dairy might cause stalls or gains but I have heard people mention it in trouble-shooting stalls. Do you know why this is? I don't eat much dairy but I think I might have to on this diet.

Cynthia, I used to wonder why people would need fat bombs until I started trying to hit those macros. I make simple ones that are 4T coconut oil, 4T butter, 2T peanut butter and a sprinkle of Stevia (about half of a packet) melted for 30 seconds and stirred together. I put a pecan half in the bottom of a mini cup cake paper and fill it about half way up. (pecans aren't necessary but I'm blessed with an abundance) I put them in the freezer and within 20 min or so they are set. They taste like salty Reecee's peanut butter cups. I guess I could try unsalted butter for these. They help get in the fat and feel like a treat too.

I wouldn't like bullet proof coffee or tea if I didn't have my little $7 frother. It makes all of the difference to me. I only use MCT oil in mine though.

Cynthia ~ I've been doing just that! You will find what works best for you! I too had to cut back on the dairy, when I hit a stall. Now things seem to be evening out.

Take care

Thank you for the welcome after my first test day hitting my target macros I'm down 2 lbs. I know it's probably water but I honestly wasn't expecting it to happen at all! That's motivating! I finished the day with macros at 5% carb 18% protein 77% fat. Calories were 1550.

I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue after WLS doing keto...

Keto makes you not hungry.
People do IF because of this. Which means I would eat all my macros at once.
My stomach never stretched out much, I can eat 1/2-1 cup of food max at a sitting.
Which means, there is NO WAY to get all my macros in one meal.

Is it OK to not eat more than 600-700 calories as long as the macros are good on ratios of fat\protein\carbs?

Advice, please?

We do that sometimes, my big sneak is cheddar cheese and too much protein.. as you say carbs are easy.. I really don't care that much for their taste, except chocolate.. and that is a very rare treat indeed.

So today is a new day, time to keep an eye on that protein .
How's everyone else doing today?

I was in the store looking at all the cheese options and they were surprising low in fat? 7-9g per serving doesn't seem like a lot.

My first official day on Keto! Macros are nearly 90% fat, less than 10% protein and carbs. Basically an avocado cream cheese bacon kale fat bomb.

Does anyone use artificial sweeteners like Swerve or Monk Fruit? I tried Monk Fruit based on recommendations on a social media group and it's kinda yucky?

Hi Cathy! You have been on these boards for a long, long time! Longer than Tammy and I have been even! I'm sure you have a lot of good keto info to offer. I'm about 10 months into this WOE now. I feel like it is a permanent change and I'm just now really starting to do it right.

Cathy, I remember reading one of your posts that talked about not snacking and I thought I could never do that. Well, I'm doing it now and finding out what a difference it makes ... less insulin response is really helping!!!

I am the same shirlc and I still struggle with it. For years, I planned a snack in my menu so my macros 'fit'. I have struggled with getting rid of that evening snack and do ok for the most part but it still is a temptation. Some habits die hard!!! Glad to hear you have mastered it.

Leisha, I am a bit of a dinosaur! LOL! I do find these boards (people) have been enormously helpful. Always something new to learn!

Wendy ~ Your dish sounds so good! This is how I make my cauliflower rice too, but instead of using eggs, cloves, and garlic, I put a mixture of LC tomato sauce and some ground hamburger on top of the rice. Sprinkle some graded marble cheese over top. Yum!

My craving for food is so much less!! It’s hard to believe!!
I am still working at it but it gets better!![/QUOTE]

Glad you're feelin' much better! Congrats on losing 6 lbs!! That great! I have found that when I become kranky, or tired and start cravings sweets, I go and eat some fat! like cheese, almonds, cashews which help to curve my appetite, and keep those cravings at bay! Just don't over do it.

Have a peaceful night all!!

Six lbs. is fantastic - congratulations!!!

I have many years of low carb/keto under my belt and only very recently 'discovered' cauli rice. I was aware of it but I think because I was never a fan of rice thought I would not care for it. Guess what? I love it. I have made a few recipes with it and each one is great. I have not tried steaming it first but that is another thing I will try.

It was my granddaughters birthday so I decided to have 2 meals yesterday and only ate food that would keep me in ketosis except I had some salad dressing!!!
When I weighed this morning I had gained 2 of my 6 lbs lost!!:
I try to remember that weight isn’t the way to go and I wish I could just ignore it!!
I tried one of my coats on that was too tight and it was much looser so I will go with that for now!!
Back to my 1 meal and intermittent fasting!! I have gone 19 hours and plan to eat in 3 more!!
Lots of water coffee and tea!!
I hope everyone is having a good wk end!!!

Me too! I'm up 2 lbs! and trying to pinpoint what went wrong. I think I over amped on the tomato sauce and cheese. It came from a can... so again it could be carbs!! but those pounds will come down again.

It is good to remember that the body has on average about 4 lbs. of fluid that naturally comes and goes. Two lbs. of 'gain' over a 24 hour period is simply not fat. It takes much longer to gain that much fat.

I always think about it in terms of trend. For this reason, I keep a daily weigh in spread sheet and can easily track the trends. It helps me see the very tiny losses that are happening over long periods of time.

Leisha - thank you for your recipe for fat bombs. I tried about 4 recipes this weekend and didn't like any of them, unfortunately. The stevia was so disgusting, it was like eating poison. So, I'm trying swerve and monk fruit next weekend and will try the same recipes again.

I have been able to hit my macros with just adding bacon fat and butter to everything. A LOT of it. So that it's hard to get all the grease off everything!

But doing ok so far -

My macros have been staying on target - 75%+ fat 20% protein 5% carbs.

2/1: 181
2/2: 179
2/3: 178
2/4: 176
2/5: 176

I worked out hard for several hours this weekend. I read somewhere during the first month you should keep work outs light. Do you guys agree?

It's so good to see everybody here! It helps me realize that it's not just me on the ups and downs! Cutting out the snacks might be helpful to me but I'll have to load up on more food than I am at mealtime. It might be something to consider to get the scales moving along.
