The seasons and the D-word

For some reason, I have an easier time losing weight in the fall and winter, and except for the times when I was doing a lot of strenuous gardening/landscaping, I invariably gain over the summer.

Seems counterintuitive...I used to blame it on winter depression, but in later life summer depressions were just as common for me, only somehow I never lose my appetite in summer!

The holidays aren't a big problem for me as they are for some, I love THanksgiving, but the rest kinda passes me by, and I don't often crave sweets.

Anyway, I'm finding myself psyched and losing, and wondering if this is just one more weird thing about me, or if anyone else finds it easier to do the D-thing in winter?

I tend to have more soups in the winter, and those are super easy to make DD friendly. We also tend to travel more in the summer and eat more when we travel, so I think I'm with you. It's easier for me to stick to a plan and to lose in the colder months.

Plus, all that shivering burns lots of calories.

I'm generally busy, but in the summer I'm away so much and there's always something coming up so I do tend to eat more so I definitely agree with you. I don't crave food the way I do in the winter and I enjoy working out because it warms me up.

Hot weather causes a lot of fluid retention for me even in the AC. Once my body adjusts to the change in season I also prefer colder weather for losing.

I lose over the summer because I work at a school and during the summer I eat better, sleep better and exercise more. During the school year I am busy all the time, workout less and eat take-out.

Summers are really hard for me to lose because even though I get a lot more exercise I spend weekends away and entertain a lot with indulgent or restaurant meals and wine. Fun, but not diet friendly! By the time the fall rolls around I am more than ready for it!

I'm much more active in the spring and summer- especially with longer day light hours- so I do better with losing or maintaining in the spring/ summer.

I just feel better about everything in my life in spring and summer. I hate being cold and strongly dislike the dark winter afternoons and evenings. The only good thing is I go to the gym more in the winter, because it's too cold to walk outside.

I didn't even think about soup...in the winter I usually make a pot of chicken stock every week, which gets turned into soup...and boiled chicken! I'm much more inclined to plan a menu and stick to it when it's cold out! Yep, I'm feeling pretty good! I just got back from two weeks in Ireland, but unlike most people again, I lose weight on vaca(7 lbs in 12 days), my stomach doesn't travel well!

I'm heading up to the UP tomorrow for a few days, it's supposed to rain the whole time, but that's OK! I'll be happy with a few craft beers and some fresh fish, beautiful Lake Superior, the fall colors and walking in the rain.

Oooh, I love the UP!!! I bet it'll be gorgeous there right now. ENJOY! (and I am with you on summer being problematic for the waist line! Too many cocktails on the patio in my case...even though I love summer best!)
