Now there's some karma for ya!

A couple I know got pick-pocketed within minutes of arriving in London...my friend was showing me her vacation pics, which included one right around the time it happened, they're doing a selfie at the train station, in their brand-new bright blue and red LLBean jackets, right in front of a "Beware of Pickpockets" sign. Might as well have been wearing a bullseye...

Starting to plan Keira's birthday party. She wants it at the zoo this year. That's going to be an adventure! Plus, we have to have it a full 5 weeks before her actual birthday, since her birthday is the week of Christmas and the other dates conflict with Thanksgiving or travel time for many families. Oy vey!

Olehcat, where are you? In your last post on Oct. 2 you said things had been overwhelming for you lately. Is everything OK? Just concerned, is all.

Funny thing -- I'm on my 15th day of not eating anything in which sugar is a principal ingredient, and now I'm finding that all sorts of things that aren't considered sweets actually taste quite sweet -- things like zucchini, butternut squash, almonds and taco shells, for instance. Maybe my taste buds had sugar shock and now they're getting over it?

Bead, when I've done low carb in the past, I noticed the same thing. Tomatoes can taste very sweet, and grilled onions? Fuggedaboudit! They taste like candy!

Off topic:

When we were at the fair on Sunday, we were waiting in line to get ride tickets, and Keira grabbed my hand and said, "Look Mom, that man's having a seizure." Sure enough, a man was on the ground, convulsing. DH and I both used to be EMTs, so I pulled her to the side and sat her down while DH and I helped his family until first responders could get there. Nobody had called 9-1-1 yet, so Keira witnessed the entire thing from him standing and alert (she told me later that she saw him before he fell down), through the whole seizure, until the medics arrived and he was out of it, but conscious. She never flinched, didn't freak out, asked what she could do, and just all-around was so mature and poised throughout the whole thing. I couldn't be prouder of her. We did have a dog with epilepsy, so she's seen seizures and I think that helped.

Wow, Dawn! It's so wonderful that you and your DH were able to help, and it also sounds like your daughter has one cool head on her shoulders. I'm sure you and DH have a lot to do with that.

What a poised, sensible kid Keira is. Wow Dawn, I know you're proud!

Bead, you're right about foods having a natural sweetness you can't taste when you're sugaring up. I love that taste.

Lynn, it sure is nice to have you back with us!

Gotta run....busy paint prep day for me....

She really is a special girl Dawn. And much of that is down to having such loving steady parents.

My DD is much improved. The drugs have started to kick in and we are starting to see her lovely joyful character once more.

That's wonderful news.

My in-laws go through similar issues with DH's brother. It is hard on everyone.

That's excellent news, Cindy. I hope the LD psychiatrist and specialist team can leverage that into some additional improvements for your DD.

NB - it's 2nd chance to see of the ballet Manon at some cinemas this evening. I can't attend because I'm at an event in South Hampstead but if I weren't, I'd be there. It's the Met's Live Broadcast of Marriage of Figaro this Saturday evening.

Anything you care to talk about? No need, obviously, if you'd rather not. Maybe I can kick somebody for you - virtually of course.
