Chia seeds

Thinking of adding these to my smoothies. Are they low carb? Seem to be low enough on a net basis. I read that they are a superfood and someone gave us a pack. Anyone use chia seeds?

Their carb count is pretty well negligent because the fiber count is very high. So if you do net carbs, they are low. I have ground chia seeds, I have only made muffins with them, but they should work in a smoothie. The muffins were OK, but prefer my flaxseed.
I'm just wondering about the texture in the smoothie, maybe the ground chia would blend better. I need a good smoothie recipe to try, let me know how it is if you use them. I have a huge jar of ground chia to use up.

I tried them but found them not worth buying or consuming.

I enjoy chia seeds in my flavored waters. I just put them in whole and wait about 10 minutes. Shake them up of course. They float around like little frog eggs. Lol my kids think it's fun to drink. Great way to add fiber and omegas.

You could make chia pudding with the ground ones.

I use two tablespoons of chia in my protein shakes. I like the texture. They are very good for you.

I add whole chia to my homemade milk kefir, let it sit overnight in the fridge (shake periodically ) and it thickens up into an awesome drinkable tangy pudding drink...sometimes I add sf flavourings.

Chia seeds are tremendous. I use them for brownies, too. They're phenomenal.

I no longer own a true recipe blog, but if you google low-carb chia seed brownies cleochatra you'll find the old, site. Please note: It's not owned by me, so I'm not sure what's happening there these days. I sold the site years ago to go back to school.

I tried them a few years ago. Everytime I used them (in smoothies), my pee would burn---TMI, but true, none the less.

wow, Susan!. I've never heard of a reaction like that! You must have a serious allergy to chia.

I use a tablespoon everyday because that is 5 grams of fiber! Flax made my stomach hurt, but chia seeds don't.

My favorite way is in chia seed "pudding" (1 can of coconut milk, package of sugar free pudding mix, add 4 tablespoons chia seeds and let it sit overnight) or to put them in my drink for a few minutes so they get "jelly". You can also sprinkle over salad.

I like to put a couple tablespoons in some warm water to get them started, add more water when they really start to gel and then put them in the fridge for later. When I take them out I use SF syrup and some HWC or HnH and enjoy. Otherwise I do, unsweetened coconut flakes, splenda, HWC or HnH, and a bit of coconut extract/flavoring. My go to pudding.

Ooh, I've never thought of using coconut flakes! I'll have to try that.
