To Cuisinart or not to Cuisinart that is the??

Hi friends,

We just said goodbye to our 30 some year old Cuisinart.

We want to replace it, but new machines are on the market and
we don't know which ones to consider. I do have my Vita Mix so
I've got the power but I miss my old friend.

It would be very good of you all and don't forget the gadget gal Ms.
Char to help give me some perspectives on all the new things to
replace my old pal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi dear lady!

I'm on my third Cuisinart and I wouldn't have any other! I love them, I love the power and what they do. Can't compare to other brands because I've never tried them though. I just know if mine died, I'd run right out and get another one.

That's just me though! LOL!

Thanks Char, which model do you have please?
I'm going utube shopping as I can't get out.
Are you still seriously using the sous vide?

The one I am currently using is a DLC2011 N Prep Plus 11 cup. I bought it in 2011 though so it's not a current model. I'd get an 11 or a 14 cup one, I'd rather have one larger than I need most of the time yet have that capacity when I DO need it.

I also recently inherited my Dad's old DLC8 11 cup processor with TONS of extra discs and stuff. Haven't decided whether to use it or keep the one I currently have. I sure don't need two!

Oh, and yes, I do still use the sous vide setup. I'm seriously considering buying one of the wand-type immersion heater/circulators though. It would be so much easier to just insert that into ANY pot or container that can handle heated water instead of setting up the whole DorkFoods thing. It works great and it uses appliances I already have but I suspect I might use the wand-style do-hickeys even more.

Char

I u-Tubed the Breville and the Cuis.

We liked Cuisinart DFP14bcny elite $214.40 at Amazon 14 c.
Char will you go online and take a look at this one and tell me what
you think? I am still housebound and pajama bound so I can't get
out and about. Would so appreciate your time and effort on my
behalf.

The Breville was a great machine but 5-6 hundred bucks is way
too much. I worked the Cuisinart for over 30 years and it was a HOG!

Barbo, I'm not finding that one? I'm getting the 14 cup Cuisinart DFP-14BCNY for $192 and change but it doesn't say Elite?

However, I'd buy that $192 one no problem. What does the Elite denote on it, do you know?

I'll look forward to hearing how you like it, Barbo - looks like it has some "features" I don't have on mine!

Happy Belated Birthday, dear friend!

My old one also died a while back so got the 14 cup one. Only complaint I have is the "safety feature" that doesn't allow me to use the slicer shredder blades without cutting things down to about an inch long before putting into the shoot. I "disabled" that feature but it would "disable" the warranty too I'm sure. I'm smart enough to not put my hand down the shoot with the vegetables.

Barbo, that model looked very different to me - maybe one of the less fru-fru models would be better! Or, go to Bed, Bath & Beyond, or one of the kitchen shops, and do a "hands on" comparison and get a feel for what would work for you.

Wish I lived closer - I'd come take you around and we'd find the right thing!

I wish you lived closer too. We would get into cooking mania together.
Believe it or not, we got a Hamilton Beach 10 cupper and I dearly love the
design. No twisting, just lifting up. A really great design. I put it through
hell today with everything but making dough, which I will do tomorrow.
I paid almost as much for a Cuisinart bowl replacement as I did for this entire
thingy. It's guaranteed for 4 years for $4 bucks. I love love the design.
Is it as strong as my old Cuis? Nope and will it last 30 years ?? Nope but
then at 84 neither will I.
