Take THAT cabbage soup diet!!!

Who else tried (and failed miserably) at the Cabbage Soup Diet? (Do a google search and it will be the first several results.) I made a cabbage/sausage dish and I wanted to share. So tasty, so filling and so on plan for my WOE. It's one of my favorite winter dishes.

Kitkat, I did the cabbage soup diet years ago when my children were teenagers, I liked it, they didn't. Anyway, you're right, I didn't lose much on it, but I liked the soup and still make it once in awhile...............Ann

I can't imagine such a diet - or a grape fruit diet - ugh! However, Kit Kat, your recipe sounds tasty!

It's super easy and you can't go wrong with making it your own recipe.

Take a roasting pot and add 2-3 inches of water. Set stove to med-high heat.

Add:
A whole head of cabbage (chopped up)
Onion (I used two and cut them in to wedges)

Then layer on the meat! First I cut up the kielbasa sausage (1 pkg. [typically higher in carbs]) and put it on top so the fat will drain over the cooking cabbage. Put a lid on the pot while you do the next part. This will give it time to cook down and give more space for MEAT!!!

While it starts to cook, brown up the ground meat. I use 2 lbs hot sausage and 1lb of ground beef. (I have done different ratios of meat:cabbage and prefer more meat to make it less carbs per serving.) Once browned, dump the meat in the pot and mix everything together. The cabbage is already starting to get tender. Turn the heat down to med-low. If you are pro-fat, add a stick of butter to the pot to add that extra richness (recommended!) and add salt and pepper to your liking. Mix every ten minutes or so until it's tender. I usually eat a bowl after it's been cooking 30 minutes but I leave it on for awhile after that. This feeds my husband and I for usually a day and a half or more.

Let me know how you like it if you give it a try.

That sounds really good!! I bet it would be good with a little soy sauce added for some extra flavor.

I'm writing cabbage on the grocery list. Thanks

Wow Kitkat, that's not the recipe I had when I was using it to diet. It was cabbage, carrots, celery, onions, water to cover, when veggies were done you added stewed tomatoes. If had of made it like yours, my children would probably have eaten it better........grin.........Ann
