Evil Croutons!!!!!

Ok so I have tried everything I can to get rid of them, but they haunt my salads. I tried subbing with bacon bits, nuts, crunchy veg, nothing can replace them.

So, I have been trying new things to get to keep them in some form but not blow my whole carb allowance for the day.

New York brand Texas Toast croutons have 4g carbs per serving, what is a serving? Yeah...it's 2 tbsp. Which equals roughly 3 croutons. not cool.

So what I have done is crush the croutons in the bag (with a hammer, it's very therapeutic!) and then measure out 2 tbsp. of the 'crumbs' to make sure i'm only getting the 4 carbs worth. Actually it is very satisfying and they mix in well with the lettuce to get an 'all over' crunch/flavor.

I always pair my salad with Newman's Own Family Recipe Italian (all you ex-fans of Olive Garden will agree this dressing tastes MOST like their addictive brand, and only 1 carb per serving!!!)

I bake pita chips and place them in my salad for crunch and that wonderful garlic/buttery taste!

My fave replacement is pine nuts. I like them BETTER than croutons, and trust me when I tell you I was a crouton fanatic!

Now that's a fantastic idea!

Look at these as well Almond Accents Products
I know you said you tried nuts, but these are different. I really like the Caesar ones and Ranch ones.

Croutons are very easy to make... if you buy some low carb bread or pitas or something, just bake them in the oven at very low heat sprayed with butter or olive oil and garlic, salt, pepper, dried herbs, etc until they turn golden brown and crisp up.
