Ms Woods, I got brave and made the donut holes..woo hoo! First batch I made without the butter but I did add 1/2 tsp of baking powder after the first couple since they didn't puff up well. With the addition of b. powder they are fluffy and soft (still warm).
I used 2 tbsp. melted butter in the 2nd batch. These absorbed a lot more oil (but that may be due to the oil being used from the first batch). Still very good.
Maybe someone should start a thread of all the things that can be made with protein powder!
