Quotes that have Inspired You on Your LC WOE Journey

I decided to start this thread so that hopefully, you will share your quotes that have inspired you or keep you motivated on your LC WOE Journey.

If it’s someone else’s words, please give them credit or if it’s original, please state that as well. I’d also like you to share how that quote has impacted you during your journey so far. Here’s my first quote:

“The definition of Insanity is to repeat an action over and over again and expect a different result.” Albert Einstein

This quote defines my weight loss/gain yo-yoing thru life... Lose the weight by LC-ing; then eat carbs like those carb-eaters and gain the weight, lose the weight by LC-ing, then eat carbs like those carb-eaters and gain the weight...INSANITY!!!

But not this time, I have stopped being INSANE!

Wishing all of us continued SUCCESS on our personal LC WOE journeys!

"Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying"

It was used in The Shawshank Redemption but a member (CyberEd312) on another forum had it on his before and after picture (200+ loss) and that really inspired me.

What a great thread idea, Just Jo. And yeah, it's confounding how many times we can do the same thing that DOESN'T WORK.

Really hoping I won't be doing that again. Feeling stronger and stronger that I've made a true turn in my life, and have accepted that I can simply never eat like I used to.

BUT, still feeling humble to the possibility I'll fall off the wagon again.
And that's OK. I need that humility to maintain, maybe more than anything else. Every time I get cocky nothing good follows.

So, my quote from Gary Taubes is:

"You're not getting fat because you're eating more, you're eating more because you're getting fat."

If you've read Taubes you know what he means, and if you haven't, you'd do yourself a favor to do so.

And my own quote is my sig line. On this journey and many others in my life, I've learned that perseverance is more important than almost anything else.

Great thread! And wonderful quotes!!

My favorite ones are:
When we start to lose hope at how long it seems to take to get to our goals:

"It's a marathon, not a sprint".
"Slow and steady wins the race"

And "progress, not perfection" .
This one because we all have setbacks, and are not perfect, but keep moving forward.

Great topic - I'm looking forward to hearing all of the quotes!

"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." I got that off this board many years back - not sure who the originator is.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." ~Winston S. Churchill

"Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.” ~John wayne

Wow! Thanks for sharing your quotes and KEEP 'em coming!! They are all so motivating!!

Hopefully one or more will be the inspiration someone may need in a moment of self doubt or crisis while doing this LC WOE!

Here's another favorite of mine:

"Relevant past behavior predicts future behavior." Dr. Phil McGraw

So while I'm on this journey, I've kept that in mind.

My "relevant past behavior": I’d lose the weight (the ga-zillion times I did it), I’d box up the “fat clothes” and keep them until I needed them again. Like I didn’t have faith in myself to maintain the weight loss. I know that's crazy!

So I would NOT be repeating the "predicts future behavior" part again, this time around I donated them as soon as they were too big for me...our local charity thrift store has an assortment of size 4XL down to 6 because of my LC WOE!

If I'm not mistaken TweakerGeek came up with the Nothing tastes as good as...

Your Churchill quote is one I have posted on my frig -- I used it on my signature line for awhile. I it! I use it at school with my students as well!

The "Success is not final part" of that quote speaks to me in terms of my maintenance plan... in the past I thought once I lost the weight -- I was DONE = SUCCESS! But true success on this LC WOE is not losing the weight, but keeping it off for a life time -- so that is the "success is not final part" for me!!

I can think of two: the one in my signature line below has been an important reminder for me, and I'll add this one. "Willpower is remembering what you want."

I googled it - it was actually Kate Moss! Puts a little bit of a different spin on it.

Mine probably only applies to diets like CAD and anything where you occasionaly get to eat higher carbs -

'If you crave it, save it'

That keeps me from feeling cheated when it's not the right time to be eating that apple, fried onions, or chocolate soft cheese!

I love 'Progress, not perfection' - thanks for that, it's going in my diary!

On that same theme...

"Practice makes Progress"!

I googled to see if I could find out who said that, no luck.

In any case, the more we PRACTICE our LC WOE the more PROGRESS we make. It's a spin off the "Practice makes Perfect" quote, which a music teacher friend of mine said is unrealistic.

He was talking about how to deal with mistakes.

To me,it means after you acknowledge the mistake which is in my case constantly starting and stopping lc. Learn from it and change and move on. Don't beat myself over my head about the weight I've gained.

Someone said something to me along those lines in 2008 and it stuck with me.

Something from my son's baseball coach.
Prepare,Perform, Persist.

Prepare - check for sales on low carb foods, purchase, then cook/freeze them so I am always prepared.

Perform - keep eating the low carb way, take my vitamins, drinking water.

Persist - in spite of weight loss stalls, the occasional going "off plan", be patient and persist. This is a lifetime journey.

Julie... my favorite is the one in your info box re: your WOE..."One day at a time." I really, really believe this. I can't worry about yesterday but I can learn from it. I personally don't think about tomorrow's food today. EVERY day that I am blessed to wake up, I plan that day's food. I keep up with it throughout the day with a tracker and know where I stand daily. I can succeed today! I am going to eat this elephant one bite at a time... "One day at a time."

One of the posters wrote this the other day... and gosh does it describe me to a T:

"I'm only hungry when I put FOOD in my mouth!"

I eat once a day as late in the day as possible because once I start eating... I can't stop. I started this practice back on 5 July... it's been really affective for me. I have it posted on my frig.

I gonna need a bigger frig, not cause of food but because of all the awe inspiring quotes you all have shared!!
