Gary Taubes all the way. After another failed low calorie, low fat diet with NO RESULTS, I stumbled across Gary's book. It was like a lightbulb blinking to life inside my head. Everything that I'd thought about dieting was wrong. He explained things so clearly that I couldn't NOT listen to him. Everything finally made sense!

Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades opened my eyes to the truth.

Dr. Atkins has guided me along the way.

Linda Sue's wonderful work has saved me from boredom.

Dr. Robert Atkins is the first and foremost without him I would still be fat and searching for the answer. Secondly all those who have come after and carried the torch of low carb. Thirdly all the wonderful cooks here and on low carb sites who have made low carbing so very easy by their willingness to experment and to share their results both good and bad.

The Hellers' Carbohydrate Diet was the first LC book I ever read and it woke me up to the nonsense that was low fat, high carb and what it was doing to my blood sugar. I was low fat dieting at the time.... I would drink a Slimfast shake and then go out for a walk in the morning. I would turn around and come back home shaking and sweating. I had my Slimfast powder on the counter next to Nestles Quik- I noticed the nutritional profile was about the same..... sugar.

I followed CAD for awhile and felt 10000% better, but didn't lose any weight. I read Protein Power and DANDER and I was off.

Wow, I am honored this thread I started is here!

I am updating my answer. I have been reading Stephan Guyenet and applying his recommendations.

Google: Whole Health Source: Food Reward: a Dominant Factor in Obesity, Part VII

I have been dropping weight after being so stuck. Giving up sweeteners, going on a bland, whole foods diet, and eating fat (no industrial seed oils! no vegetable oils) separate from my food has been amazing.

I am so thankful he wrote this, and it is offered free online.

WOE: Low Carb-due to PCOS
Start Date: May 25, 2013
First is my personal doctor Dr. Julie B. She has explained why low carb is a must for my PCOS body. She got me started and follows up with me every 2-3 weeks to keep me on track. She also did the appropriate bloodwork to find a couple of nutrients that I was deficient in.

Next was finding this site. Key Tones has been my education guru. I am now reading 2 Taubes books because of your recommendation. I am also looking for other books to read. I can't find Volek and Phinney so can you point me to their work?

I used to follow Atkins years ago, but then the controversy started and I quit, thinking it was bad for me. Now, I know that it is not the right plan for me because of my PCOS. I must follow a total carb reduction plan and not a net carb plan.

I am the type who likes to read and understand my subject.

I now know that this is a way of life for me if I want to be healthy.

Dr. Robert C. Atkins. Without having read DANDR, I would probably be diabetic by now. For all my low carb questions and dilemmas, I return to the source and he has never failed me. I have read a lot since and I admire many (Taubes and Perlmutter come to mind), but Atkins will always be my go-to information source.

I don't have a guru so to speak but. Dr. Davis' "Wheat Belly" got me started.
I tried his recommendation to eliminate grains and noticed results right away.
Then I found LC friends and really got on board. As a result of recommendations I saw here I have read and listened to Gary Taubes, Phinney and Volek, Eades, Marks daily apple and Dr. Wahls...of all the above Gary Taubes was the most convincing. His books took some effort for me, but wow! are they packed with info.

I thought I should add my 10th grade biology teacher to this list, Mrs. Patrick. One day in class she gave us each a saltine cracker and told us to hold it in our mouths without swallowing. It turned sweet and she explained how and why.

I pulled that little nugget out of my brain when I started reading up on LC 10 years later.

WOE: Atkins - OWL
Mike Moreno who wrote The 17 Day Diet first introduced me to a diet without bread, pasta, potatoes, and sugar. (Even though the diet as a whole is not low carb)

After losing weight and regaining it, I went seeking further inspiration and found the following:
Dr. Atkins - DANDR (which really opened my eyes and explained things to me)
LowCarbFriends (that became an invaluble source of info)
SugarFreeSheila (who taught me that there are no excuses)
Linda Sue and George Stella (for recipes)
And a few people on here who always post valuable little morsels of info...

If I had to pick one, I'd say Dr. Atkins.

I'm still growing everyday.
