Lights Out: Sleep, Sugar and Survival
Has anyone read this book?
I got it from the library and I'm on page 52. It's extremely radical, which explains why so many people in Amazon reviews hated it. I've got another 154 pages to go, but the authors believe that our bodies evolved to eat carbs only in the summer (three months out of the year), to release lots of insulin to store them as fat then and the rest of the year we were living off of that fat. The fact that we are exposed to huge amounts of artifical lights and that we deny ourselves sleep has messed that system up so that our metabolisms act as though it's summer all year round. In addition to obesity, we are subject to all of the diseases of civilization. Last edited by kat819; 07-13-2010 at 08:20 AM.. |

Haven't read it, but that's interesting.
I suppose for people who descend from people who lived their lives very far from the equator in cold places with short growing seasons, that might have some validity. Obviously ridiculous for everyone else, though. |
