My garden has saved me SO much in fresh veggies!!!!! I have tomatoes up the wazoo, cucumbers coming out of my ears and zuchinni the size of baseball bats!!! The only thing I buy now is just bagged lettuce (on sale only) and whatever protein I want to throw on top.

Heather, it sounds like canning/freezing time, big time! For hamburger, which is usually pretty expensive at times I think, I've started buying any other cut of beef When on sale under $2/lb., and having the butcher grind it. I'm not sure why I never thought of that before. It normally has to be before 6 PM when they clean up the grinder though.

Foodtown has specials on pork butt roast - 88 cents a pound. I got a fantastic roast for $5.29 today - at least 5 pounds cooked meat.
Medium pork ribs were $1.49 for very meaty ribs, so DH got 4 pounds. Ground beef was about $2.19 a pound. Eggs - $1.90 for 18. Cheese - $3 a pound on sale. Just add garden veggies and tons of food. |

If I only had $20 for the week, I'd buy two pounds of Laura's Lean Ground Beef ($9), one pound of cheese ($4) and I'd buy 5 dozen eggs ($7).

I am having to do this again this year. Joy Joy! I will be so glad when the economy comes back!!! Winter time it always slows down and no bonuses in sight until at least spring.
Here is what I bought at Walmart today: (I did buy a $7 gingerbread house kit, but I am not counting that towards my grocery budget. It's for my friends little girl when I watch her Christmas Eve.) Half & half quart-$1.73 3 cans of Black Olives-$4.38 2 bottles of Lipton Diet Green Tea-$2.49 Pint of grape tomatoes-$1.76 1 lb. LOL White American Cheese-$4.99 Total was $15.35. I had lettuce left over from last week that I bought on sale and had a coupon for. So my salads are done for the week, and I have frozen hot dogs, chicken breasts and hamburger to use for the week along with frozen broccoli and green beans to use.

Not Rhonda but it's a strained yogurt. Also called Greek Yogurt. A brand of this would be Fage.
You can make your own by putting cheesecloth or paper towels in a strainer suspended over a bowl and putting the plain yogurt in it to drain. It makes it nice and thick like sour cream. It's really good and filling. |
