Our Super Walmart has 5lb rolls of ground beef on sale for $6.50 ($1.30 a lb.). Not 99cents, but a good stock up price to me. Plus with the rolls you can cut it into slices for burgers, so no patting it out.
What I'd buy: 10lbs leg quarters - $4.56 @ SWM 5lbs ground beef - $6.50 @ SWM 1 head leaf lettuce - $1.44 @ SWM 1 cucumber - $0.50 @ SWM 1 bottle store brand ranch dressing - $1.50 @ Kroger 30 pk eggs - $3.19 @ Save-a-lot 1 lb bacon - $1.99 @ Aldi = $19.75 |

I'm fortunate to have a Trader Joe's, 99 cent store, and a Costco all within about 3 miles from my house. Eggs & dairy at Trader Joe's... the best price around... I check the 99 Cent Store for their produce before I go to Costco. Last week I got a HUGE head of cauliflower, broccoflower (tried it for the first time-YUM), 3 bunches of cilantro, 6 romaine hearts, and a huge package of green onions for $4.25 at the 99 Cent Store. Costco has great prices on produce as well. I love their small sweet peppers (bbq'd) and they usually have a good price on their asparagus.

I'd definitely be heading to Food City if I only had $20. Okay, I'm going to grab one of their ads for this...
3 doz grade B eggs - $2.94 2 bags baby spinach - $1.76 2 lbs chicken drumsticks - $1.96 2 lbs ground beef (they have 73% lean, which is unusual!) - $1.96 Low sodium bacon- $2.99 Small jar of mayo- $1.69 Celery 79¢ 3 bell peppers 99¢ 3 cans of tuna $3.87 Brick of cream cheese $1 Okay, so that's $19.95! And I got a lot! Maybe I should shop there more.... |

I'd get:
4 -18 pk eggs...$9.00 1 -pk celery......$1.75 1 pk mushrooms$1.75 and about 3 pounds of beef...whatever is reduced to $2.00 a pound or less I go to stores that reduce fresh meats and veggies and stock up when I can. I also stock up on canned meats and veggies when they hqave them on sale. This saves money in the long run. Reduced beef is actually better than very fresh because it's more tender...just cook it well. Last edited by Starzmom; 03-01-2009 at 08:05 AM.. |
