Sweet Deception - Is there nothing I can eat?

I recently finished reading this book "Sweet Deception" by Joe Mercola published in 2006. It seems like a well researched book on artificial sweeteners, but it paints a disturbing picture of the safety of these sweeteners. Since reading the book, I've dropped the remaing areas where I was using primarily splenda in my diet and have just been using Stevia and Xylitol.

Has anyone read this book and formed any opinions on the topic? Has anyone dropped the use of artificial sweeteners had a personal experience with improved health?

There are tons of threads on this that have been posted in the Main Lobby-do a search. I believe one of them was called Sweet Poison after the book by the same name.
