Carbon monoxide in meat
This story was posted on ABC news today. Hopefully, this practice will stop but I wouldn't count on it:

This practice could explain why the Bar S bacon I bought from Sam's club the other day looked fine but once I opened it and used some, It was literally bad a day later. Jerks!!!

This is why I don't buy meat at Walmart. And definately not the reduced meat. Have you noticed how long a shelf life they give it? They don't cut it fresh in the store -they do it in larger facility that can supply more stores. Its all to save money, all the while charging outrageous prices!
I have worked in meat depts and we gave beef 3 days and pork 4 days. And if it started turning a darker color before that we reduced it and got it out of there. That was at Sams. They ran a great meat dept. But sometimes at Walmart I notice A LOT of days on meat. I used to wonder how that was possible until I saw a program o TV about it. And this footage kept saying how important it was to use the sell by date. Well I have found things past their date in Walmart a LOT of times! Just my thoughts on it! |

with all the disease in this country, you'd think that this kind of stuff would decrease not the opposite. i'm so glad to get my grass fed beef each year. that way at least most of the time i'm eating well, w/o additives.

I saw this also on Good Morning America the other day. I usually pick up some stuff when I leave work and was quite relieved to see that Safeway was one of the chains that doesn't do this - also remember Giant Food (Northeast I think) doesn't do it either.

Walmart meat is nasty, looks like it's coated in Vaseoline! I'll never buy it. I'm about to make my first trip to the Circle M Ranch and buy the fresh stuff right from the cattle farm!
