Anyone heard much about the book "Good Calories Bad Calories" (I think)

I heard them discussing on a show tonight. And how the doctor claims that fat and protein are pretty much all you need. That carbs essentailly cause everything that goes wrong in the human body. Cancer, Etc. It has to do with insulin spikes that carbs cause.

I was just wondering if anyone else knew anything about it.

ABC News: Excerpt: 'Good Calories, Bad Calories'

Just google the book title, that should bring the site up to read the
excerpt.

(kind of funny, the same station I heard it on, had the Halleluiah diet on the
same day~ which is a vegan diet). The author of that book was touting the
excellent health to be gotten from that plan, with proof text as well.

There is a lot of discussion on this in the main low carb lobby. I am anxious to get the book, though I have heard it is not an easy read, it is good information.

It's an excellent book - it covers the history and politics of how the current dietary recommendations developed as well as lots about fat, cholesterol and weight control. There are some sections that you might need to go through a couple of times if this stuff is new to you, but it's very well written, and I didn't find it heavy reading at all.

What she said.

I am just starting and am finding some of the material quite facinating

If you do a search of Thread Titles for "Taubes" (the author) you'll find a bunch of threads about it.

It's a good book, not a diet book, but a history. The author called it a "revisionist history" of nutrition, I believe. I did find it dense, information-wise, but well- and engagingly written so not slow or boring or pedantic. Definitely fascinating learning where the nutritional dogma originated and how it was propagated!

I just finished reading and found it very enlightening. I like that the author is not "pushing" any particular diet. He just presents the facts through the studies done and allows the reader to make their own decisions. Like I said - very enlightening!
