Weight Loss Cure: Read it? Tried it?

So I have a friend who read the book The Weight Loss Cure by Kevin Trudeau and is convinced that if he gets the shots mentioned in the book, his weight problem will be forever cured.

Has anyone here:

1. Read the book? Do you think there's anything plausible in it?
2. Gotten the shots? If so, did the shots help you lose weight? Did they harm you in any way?

Thanks for any information you can share with me. I'm trying to debate him on this plan but I don't know that much about it. It just sounds too good to be true to me.

Rachel

I went and read about it on Amazon.

It sounds awful to me.

The shots are human growth hormone shots and apparently they are not available in the United States. The program involves colonics every other day for thirty days and apparently a 500 calorie a day diet as well as numerous supplements, special teas, walking an hour a day, and more.

My friend just got upset with me for having to "defend" this program, so I told him I'm done discussing it with him.

Kevin Trudeau is a scam artist. The FDA has already fined him once. Stay far far away from the weasel

Kevin Trudeau is a quack. Big time.

Snake oil salesman is an understatement. He's been sued MANY times over for his fraudulent claims.

Hey Rach!

THere was a thread on the Main LC lobby about this awhile ago, I'll see if I can find you the link

shoot, I can't find it. There was nothing good on it though.

I can understand someone being taken in by the infomerical if they don't know this guys history. He sounds soooooo convincing and makes it sound like the weight will melt off!

Stop over in the SB board and see us!

The same here. I read up through the Phase 1 Weight Loss Cure Protocol on page 77 where it lists 60 items to follow. One of them is to reduce air conditioning. Some make sense and some don't. At that point, I put the book down and will never finish it.

In October last 2008 I blogged about the Federal Trade Commission’s judgment - over $5 million - against twice-convicted felon Kevin Trudeau. He is the author of "The Weight Loss Cure “They” Don’t Want You to Know About."

Who are “they”? The Federal Trade Commission, apparently.

The FTC objected to Trudeau making false claims in his infomercials for the book.

On November 4, 2008, federal judge Robert W. Gettleman amended the judgment to $37,616,161, the amount consumers paid in response to the deceptive infomercials.

I always wondered how much money those infomercials could rake in. That’s not pure profit, of course: Trudeau had to pay for production costs, air time, etc.

What if he can’t pay the fine? Jail time?

Don’t feel sorry for him. His false claims were so egregious that the $37 million he collected from customers is tantamount to theft. $19.95 at a time, plus shipping and handling.

Don’t be surprised if Turdeau cites this judgment as proof that the government and weight-loss industry have conspired to suppress his weight loss cure.

It warms my soul to know that there is indeed some justice in this life. To the FTC and Judge Gettleman: thank you.

-Steve

Kevin Trudeau's book was based on a diet from the 1950's called Simeon's Protocol. The injections are not human growth hormones, it's HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) created in the placenta and excreted in the urine of pregnant women. Simeon's version doesn't include colonics or cleansing of any kind, but it does require the 500 calories per day, and of very specific quantities of specific foods.

Skeptics say that anyone could lose weight on 500 calories per day, however because of hunger and weakness, most can't endure it long enough to see results. That's where the hcg comes in - it eliminates the hunger. And unless you work out regularly already, exercise is not recommended.

Simeon's diet, called Pounds and Inches, is a free download on many websites, just Google it and you'll get dozens of hits. There are a couple of threads about it on this board as well. I found it very interesting and tried it myself. I lost 16 pounds in 33 days and only gained back 4 after going on a cruise.

I agree with all the comments about Kevin Trudeau, but the diet he "stole" is (in my opinion) not a scam. Read Pounds and Inches and then decide. It's not for everyone, but if you want a jump start on your weight loss, or to finish up those last few pounds that just won't come off, I recommend it. Also, it's NOT illegal in the US, it's a prescription drug offered from your own doctor or from many weight loss clinics. People think it's illegal here because many people do order their hcg online from overseas pharmacies because it's MUCH less expensive that way. Read the book.

If I only ate 500 calories a day until I reached goal, I'm afraid I'd gain it all back when I tried to move to say 1200 calories a day. I imagine the diet would work, but how do you stop dieting without gaining weight? I've lost and gained weight so many times, I just hope to find a way to keep it off this time.
