I think it's important to remember that there are lots of different eating plans that work for different people. There were elements of lower carb in his plan, certainly not atkins, but he was advocating whole grains and less sugar.

Just my 2 cents.

Fawn,

Hip hop hurray for whole foods. Whole foods helped get me permanently down from 265 lbs 15 years ago and I am currently struggling because I am not pre-planning my meals and am subsequently eating too many processed foods! sigh......I feel better now :0)

I don't agree with his food plan but I liked what he said about motivation. Don't wait to feel motivated to exercise, just do it and the motivation will follow. I find this to be very true!

It's true about the different ways American eating vs the rest of the world. When my daughter signed up to be an exchange student one of the things they talked about was the fact that everyone who comes to America gains weight and the kids who go to Europe or Asia lose weight. My daughter lost weight in Japan and they actualy eat alot of food and our Japanese exchange student gained a little (she was quite skinny). She said that her friends all teased her before she left saying she'd come back fat like an American.

I have to agree wth that statement. Do the action first than the motivation will follow......now that's advice I think I will try!

I hate Oprah's Show.

Period. (because there isn't a forum long enough to go on and on about this! )

As for Bobby G - He's just her flavor of the month. Just like Dr. Phil and whatever else she's into for now.

I did like the motivational tip - action then motivation follows - I pretty much lost interest after that, and it's not about "defending" low-carb, or atkins, or any one single plan -- it's about principles (some of which were discussed earlier in this thread) and things like these are almost always part of some bigger consumer fat trap.

ok! im off the soap box.

The only product of his that I eat occasionally is the Fiber 1 Cereal. I remember Dr. Atkins recommending it. It is very low in sugar.

I like how he thinks, but I don't agree with the food he has to offer.
Those ladies looked amazing! I wanted to hear more about their stories on how they lost the weight. Oprah and that crunchy cracker, give me a break!!
That was rude of her to eat like that on tv.

I have considered getting the book, I think the diet would be something that would be doable in the summer months...when I crave fruit! My plan is to stick with the low carb until may...then see what happens...I really did like what he had to say.

Bob Greene, by his own admission, has never had a weight problem or suffered from emotional eating. I stopped listening after that.

Just curious. Why couldn't you do low carb and eat fruit in the summer? Eating fruit has never stopped me from staying low carb and I've never gained weight from eating it.

Thank you! Rude AND greedy! It was all about the money. First Bob says, " don't drink diet pop because it keeps the sweet cravings going" then he says, "drink slimfast and eat yoplait, cheerios, etc.,.." And then there's Oprah saying" that's my dog... that was my idea... WHATEVER! Definitely not her finest hour.

I'll have to object. Bob Greene has been her trainer for over 10 years. This is not the first time he has been on her show and not his first book. He is a personal trainer by trade and pulls on his experience with his clients and family members when he writes his books. He writes his books based on what he has found to work for his clients. Not everyone can only lose on low-carb.

Give the guy a break.

I like Bob..and he has to "hype" another book for his family..which is fine.

But, not for me..thank you.

Also, I thought canola oil was a no-no, too.

I agree Allie but let's keep this in perspective. When Oprah unveiled the "grocery store", they lost me right there. If I had known that this was going to be a Kraft promotion, I would not have tuned in. Bob would have had a lot more credibility for me if they had just talked about the book. I just think that some of us are disappointed that Bob (who is a personal trainer and knows better) is willing to sell out for a Kraft endorsement. He knows that Slimfast and Yoplait are not the healthiest but because of this deal with Kraft, he gets on national television and endorses them. At the end of the day, Bob (and Oprah) made it perfectly clear that they are more concerned about the size of their pocket book. No one (at least I'm not) is questioning Bob's credentials, just his motives.

I put BG book on hold at the library. I just want to see what it's about. I'm not going to buy it. I love Atkins to much to fall for his junk. I knew what was up when I seen all the kraft stuff. No wonder I fell asleep.

I recognize all of that.
I know everyone can't lose/doesn't like/isn't successful on low-carb. That's why I said in my post it isn't about defending low-carb.

I personally disagree with a lot of her program now, and a lot of what he was pushing product-wise. I also just don't like oprah!

Just my little opinion

I agree with his suggestion to dump Coke. I haven't had any sodas for five years. Then again, I was never the addict that many are. I think if it is consumed in moderation it is usually not a problem. Drinking a lot of it everyday seems to cause many to stall. Not to mention it's not the healthiest thing to be drinking.

The Slimfast suggestion... *sigh* Bob, Bob, Bob...let me teach you a few things about GOOD HEALTHY nutrition...

In Bob's defense, this fact does not make what he says worthless. Someone does not have to have "been there, done that" to pass on good & usefull advise. He man does have an education.

Yes, it is. In my book anyway. He includes a lot of things I keep on my list to avoid.

I was very disappointed in all the processed foods, things including unhealthy ingredients, etc. It's the types of foods, not whether they are low carb or not, that really bothered me. I agree this one is about money.

There ARE people who will do great with this weightloss plan regardless. I simply prefer healthier food choices.

I study all plans that come out. For a variety of reasons but mainly so that I have educated myself to all options out there. I'm a sponge when it comes to health and weight loss.

Many of us here are. We just need to be careful what we choose to absorb.
