So if I go to a store and find the capsules, it's the same thing as the powder you order, I just have to empty the capsules, right? (I'm even finding a hard time finding the capsules here but I don't want to wait to order the powder Lol). I have 1 bag of shiritake left and I'm sad (even though I have a case coming Thursday

I bought the bag of powder and have had 0 problems getting it to work right/blend in/stay in suspension. I ordered it directly from the company and had it the next day! (of course they're about 2 hours north of me so it didn't take long anyway, but they DID mail it in a Priority Mail package so you'd have it in a couple days anyway.) |

Yeah I can't find it anyways Lol. I've looked everywhere here.
I'm probably going to order it from the company directly as well. I was just wondering, about how many servings (comparing to a bag of shiritake noodles) can you get out of a bag of the powder. I see the bag of powder is about $20 plus $11 shipping, a case of 24 bags of noodles from them is about $35 plus (I assume the same shipping, I didn't look). I'm just wondering if you get way more when you use the powder and do it yourself.

Really? You must be using a different source - the one I get is from Sunnyvale, CA, costs $19 for a 500 gram bag, says there are 100 servings per bag at 1 teaspoon per serving (in which case I'm gonna get more than 100 per bag because 1/2 tsp. is PLENTY for my uses so far) and has a $5 shipping fee.
They have the noodles too. Google it up - it's konjac and then foods, all one word...not the Miracle Noodle site. |

![]() I bought the capsules and yea they were expensive For those of you making cold drinks do you just mix all the ingredients cold and just wait for it to thicken up? The few things I've mixed up I've also heated - but before heating it didn't seem to do much. Does cold stuff just take a lot longer to thicken? I'd like to make something resembling a shake, Frappuccino or a berry smoothie. Last edited by Divabunny; 03-08-2011 at 10:14 AM.. |

Ms. Woods, Charski is right. I bought a bottle of 100 caps for $9.99 and have been very disappointed.
So far, they haven't worked and I have used 4 caps to equal 1 tsp. to each cup of liquid, cold, and it didn't do anything except end up in the bottom of the container the next day. I have tried it with several different drinks. Same result. If you can spare the $20, you are probably better off springing for the bulk powder (IMHO). I am going to order some soon. |

What brand do you have? I am sure mine cost twice as much.
Sounds like you have a gum in there, not glucomannan. |

i got my glucomannan, but it looks like I may not be able to use it. i read that it blocks the absorption of medicines, and I am on lots of meds many times a day. it said wait 2 hours before or after, and I don't have any four hour period without any.
anyone else take meds with it and notice anything? |

Well, I take 7 kinds of prescriptions, and multiple supplements per doctors orders.
I've been using Glu since before this thread started, about a month plus. I guess until I see the doc in June I won't know the blood chemistry, etc. but I think I haven't noticed a difference in symptoms. Didn't know, about the absorption. Anyone else? I use glu in food only, not as a supplement. |

Dr. J,
I bought Vitamin Shoppe brand. The label reads: serving size 3 capsules. Amount per serving: glucomannan 1.99g. 1.5g. carbs, 1.5 g. fiber. Other ingredients: gelatin, rice flour. When I opened and measured the contents of 1 of the caps, it was 1/4 tsp. I read that 1 tsp. was supposed to thicken 1 c. of liquid. I haven't found it to work. Has anyone else had this problem or tried this brand? |

I use the capsules and I noticed the stuff I thickened didn't really thicken until I heated it. I've never made anything cold with them so I suppose if I had mixed it really well and left it alone it may have thickened up but I dunno...

I have Solaray caps, 600 mg and "other ingredients for gelatin capsule", which I found at the local heath food store. I will buy the bulk when these are gone.
Cold doesn't set up fast, but it fully thickens overnight, and I have never had clumps. Sorry you have had problems, there must be a huge difference in brands of capsules. |

Yep, I was thinking the same thing! This is why I prefer the higher-quality name brands on most stuff, although that is STILL no absolute guarantee about what you're getting.
However, if they're made in China - I put them back on the shelf. |

Retro,
Interesting article. I get a lot of my supplements from Vitamin Shoppe and now I am wondering how much and WHAT I am really getting! How can we believe any company? They all say that they are tested for purity, blah blah....... |

Hi!
Any new GLUC recipes to post in this thread? Love me my GLUC powder!! Right now I am using it in my daily protein shakes to make them more like protein "puddings" that I drink with a straw. SOOOOO filling! YAY! How are you using your GLUC? |

Has anyone tried making a pie filling with glucomannan as the thickener? Maybe with lemon or cherry DaVinci?

There is a blog out there that does something like that with glu. I haven't tried it.
There are about 20 recipes for glu with links to recipes for shiratakis and for chia seeds. You could google to find it. |

Ok, for anyone using the capsules, what brand are you using. I found Natures Way Glucc capsules here yesterday, I didn't buy them, wanted to see what yall said first.
