That's for the capsules. There are people who swallow capsules without water (I'm not one of them). If the capsule disolves in your esophagus the glucomannan can gel into a ball and cause a problem.
I'd much rather cook with it or eat shirataki noodles than use it in capsule form like a supplement.

I had much better luck using a wire whip and beating in the gluc. powder (scant 1 teaspoon) into about 1 1/2 cup cold broth before adding the rest (1 quart total) and heating.

Thanks for the help.

I've alread reordered, afraid that my experiments will run me short!

I want to make konnayaku jelly candies but I can't find the us conversion for the measurements. Does anyone know what the conversion would be for the recipe below?

# 10 g konnyaku powder
# 180 g sugar
# 700 ml water (portion 1)
# 200 ml water (portion 2)
# different food coloring

1. 1 Boil the water (portion 1) with low heat.
2. 2 mix konnyaku power and sugar together. mix well with a wooden spoon.
3. 3 add the mixture into the simmering boiling water and bring to boil again. mix well till the power & sugar dissolved completely.
4. 4 after boiling, add in the remaining portion of the water & bring to boil again.
5. 5 divide the mixture into 2 or more portions and add in your desired colours.
6. 6 fill into mould of different shapes or sizes & leave it to cool.
7. 7 (if u prefer a cold jelly,put them inside a refrigerator for 3-4hrs).

180 grams is 6.3 ounces in weight
700.ml is 23 ounces or a little less than 3 cups
200 ml is 6.7 ounces..

Thank you so much Carolyn. I knew someone here would know the answer. I kept trying to google it but I didn't know how to word it and all I could get was the answer in decimal pounds. Still I think I'm going to need a scale to make the candy.

Just Google "metric converter" to get a list of online calculators. But yes, a scale is definitely a must-have in any serious cook's kitchen

I tried so hard to watch that guy, but the filth around his kitchen, his stove, and by extension around his food, just was such a turnoff!

LOL..Georgene..I rewatched it yesterday..And I liked the way he sprinkled the powder in a plate, then water over it..I think that is a good way to do it.That man works in a hospital..
His kitchen is rather unappetizing, I'm afraid.

I am going to try the pickling lime with the capsules today to see what happens..Hope
Wallie carries it.

Which explains why so many people get sick while in the hospital!

I have tried for some time to get pickling lime at Wallie, and have yet to find it (it's been a few months that I have been looking for it). So maybe if you find it, you could tell me which department you found it in?

Yes Carolyn, I think they would be yummy with koolaid and if I can find some with citric acid in them I won't need to find the pickling lime.

I had read on many sites yesterday that the pickling lime just makes the noodles/candies firmer. Many sites recommended just using about 1/2 teaspoon lime juice.

I bought the supplements on Sat and yesterday took one an hour before lunch and haven't eaten since yesterday at lunch. I have never done this before unless I was if-ing. I will try it again. I have felt so satiated.

You should google death from konjac powder. I think the associated deaths from this product are from people eating the jelly or gummy candies. I think they stopped up their esophagus and choked to death or something.

It was very frightening to read about...Be careful with these!

Can someone tell me the proportions to make gluc jell? I would add it to puddings and to soups.

I'm having trouble with it "gluing" up in my Bullet.

I even had it glue up enough to unscrew the lid.

I need help!

I made me some glu pudding today. I added about half a packet of SF single to go cherry wylers drink mix and this reminds me of jello with cool whip mixed in before it is set. I like it!

We need to make sure Rochester does not find these.

All kidding aside, I guess we need to chew our food.

Thank you pooticus. I read about it while looking for recipes. Seems it was children, the elderly, the size of the candy and not chewing before swallowing, that caused the problem.
