protein shakes???
My book should be here monday with all the correct info but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make one of the shakes I hear so much about? I bought some chocolate whey protein powder tonight and would love to use it tomorrow, I also got some heavy cream etc, I wasn't sure what all went in it.. so anyway, thanks in advance!!

2 scoops of protein powder, 1 tbsp of HWC (or coconut milk), ice cubes/crushed ice, 1 tsp of leucine powder (I add it in at the end, blends better), water....put in blender until mixed (about 20 seconds)
this is the basic shake, you can fix it up a bit by using either unsweetened chocolate or vanilla Almond Breeze (instead of water) and/or you can add up to about 1/2 c of lc berries. some things to add that don't seem to impede weight loss: extracts (vanilla, peach, strawberry), davinci syrups (depending on your sensitivity to splenda) HTH! |

are they sweet or will they need something like splenda in them? Also what is Leucine powder I don't have that.. I was thinking one scoop of protein powder, 1 raw egg, 2 tbls of hwc, and ice/water to blend it together.. would that be gross??

Spryng, Almond Breeze is a brand name for Almond Milk. There are different brands but that brand has an unsweetended chocolate flavour that is great. The lecuine is a supplement. Your brand of protein powder probably has some in it. Most do. Look on the ingredients. The 6WC lists 2500mg to be added. My protein powder has that amount in it so I don't add anything. HTH.

Spryng, I use unsweetened Almond Milk or unsweetened vanilla soymilk, Slender Soy and Westsoy are pretty low on the carb counts, some brands are as high as 10 or 15 so make sure to check label.

thanks so much all!
No I'm not doing the 6wc I just started the protein power lifeplan today but the shakes sounded right up my alley because I'm huge on easy meals like bars etc but with this plan I don't want to buy premade bars, I want to go a bit more natural so I bought the whey protein powder to make my own shakes. I just had one for lunch with two scoops of powder, 2 tblsp of hwc and ice and a little water, it's nice and thick and has a really good flavor all on it's own.. I think next time I may add an egg to it and maybe a couple drops of vanilla extract or splenda just to make it a tad bit sweeter but all in all it's a hit and I'll be using them more as meal replacements while I work since I really don't have much time to make meals etc..

Spryng, that is exactly how I use the shakes. I whip up two in the morning and take them to the office and put them in the fridge. Its just easier to drink a shake at my desk than eat something. Then I can go for a walk outside for my official lunch hour.

I also use Optimum Whey Protein Powder. Cookies and Cream & Rocky Road are my favorite flavors. I take 2 scoops of the powder, about 2 cups of ice cold water, 1 oz. cream cheeese, 10 - 12 ice cubes and 1 tsp. Guar Gum or Xanthan Gum (thickener agent) and mix all of it at high speed in the elcetric mixer. The result is something like soft ice cream. I then put the mixture into the freezer for about 5-10 minutes in order to harden it. I find it delicious and very filling and nice to have when the weather is warm.

I'd say whey, but that's for me and I'm hypothyroid and need to avoid soy. I've heard some people say the soy doesn't taste as good as the others also.

I use Unjury Protein powder and I love it. I've been doing induction for weeks with minimal results. I realized that I wasn't getting enough protein because of my wls. I started using my Unjury along with my induction foods and the first day I lost 3lbs. Since last week its been 1lb per day every day. I have 3-4 shakes a day which gives me 3 carbs and 20 grams of protein per shake. I'm happy and full all the time!

On a side note, what kind of protein is being used? I'm new to this and lift a lot. I've heard that you shouldn't use protein shakes do to the fact it has a lot of protein (my gold standard is 24g of protein), so two scoops at 48gs seems like it would be against what I have read for protein. I see people add a bunch of fat to it, but I can't imaging you can make up the difference? Sorry for the noobess. I miss my shakes lol. |
