Convincing the family??

How do you convince your family members... that your not crazy for doing low carb.

If I hear my father mention high fiber breads, fruits, brown rice or simply just eat vegan, suggestions to me one more time... I'm going to jump out of my skin!

Any thoughts?

I mainly do low carb because it is what keeps my blood sugars under control, without being on any medications. I think the big thing my father CAN'T get over is "BUTTER". OMGZ if I mention eating butter to him, it's like I killed someone! He has this huge tub of "Soft Spread" margarine in the fridge. Every time I see it I think to myself. Man, how can anyone eat that plastic garbage?

A. He wont read any of the books I've given him.
B. Stubbornness is his highest quality!
C. He watches way too much damn TV. They have him hypnotized with all these fancy doctor shows. And I am sorry Oprah but I don't really care for Dr. Oz either!

Tell them you are allergic to wheat and grains and fruit makes your stomach hurt. Maybe then they'll shut it! And tell him butter is natural and has 0 trans fat which is death, unlike margarine.

Do you live with him? Is that the problem?

If you only visit, just try to avoid food talk as much as possible. You might also mention that you're following "medical advice" (Dr. A was a physician after all:-)

I find that when anyone thinks that I'm eating low carb for medical reasons (which I am--to avoid diabetes2), they don't say anything.

I also don't say "low carb." I just say that I don't eat sugar or starch--on medical advice. I can say that because my endo thinks this is great, so I let people think it was all his idea.

No he does not live with me. Thank goodness. I know he is just trying to help and his conventional wisdom has been telling him the same lies for decades longer than me.

When I started trying to lose weight initially (for instance) I thought non-fat products and extremely lean meats were the only way to go. I never thought of carrots as something that would derail me. Or fruit! Or even bread, so long as it had not much fat in it.

The first time I did low carb, I did Atkins induction for close to a year. In the first six months I lost 27 pounds. I felt fantastic. And I fit into my wedding dress just fine. So I know it works and I know its not just a fluke. I didn't have to starve myself to get healthy and thinner. At this time me and my father weren't on talking terms. So he never saw that happen.

Slowly, I've gotten sloppy over the years. Thusly why I think this new program will help me boost off.

The topic of food, and weight loss is one of our key conversations. Maybe I should just stop trying to convince him and prove to him that it works. Then he couldn't say a word!

My step mother keeps trying to talk to me about fats too. The problem is she listens to these doctors on TV who like to over simplify it all. Talking about brown and yellow fats. Well I know olive oil is good for me but its GREEN! I mean COME oN!!! Get your head out of your butt and stop being a sheep in the herd and become a person of true knowledge. Thats what I want to say to them anyway!

I guess that's part why I like Dr. Eades so much. He talks on the molecular level. Sure, sure he's really dang wordy! But it just shows me he knows what he is actually talking about rather than just over simplifying it for the sheep!

His books should be called, "Knowledge is power".

And you are right, "low carb" is a taboo topic these days.
