New To PP and this site

Hi everyone.
Two years ago I was 140 lbs, seems like a lot for a gal that is 5'4 but I was working out with a trainer and really in good shape. I had lost 60 lbs doing low fat/low cal diet. Within two years I've gained it back plus some. I'm a hog. I'm so depressed. I read much of this forum and decided that maybe I need the higher protein. I have a lot of muscle (moosle) under this fat (there's a term for that but forgot what it is). My toned bod turned flabby within no time. After reading and reading I've decided that it's mostly due to the low cal and high carb diet I got used to.

SO, here I am. I"m doing PP. Please tell me which book is best to purchase.
I'm going by what I'm reading here before getting the books. I need to get started. I'm just sickened about my weight.

I went shopping and got all high protein foods.

Thanks, looking forward to learning and losing with everyone.

Daisey

Hi Daisey!

This thread is not very active, but there is a lot of information available. I used the original Protein Power book, which I had for several years. There is a newer version Protein Power Lifeplan, which I understand is easier to understand. That being said, you can learn a lot on-line. This forum is great, but there is also a PP forum that is strictly Protein Power, no other programs are listed. I am members of both.

I mostly lost my weight through Atkins- ish low carbing. I say it this way because I never followed any diet or plan 100 percent. I started low carbing and kept trying to tweek things and found I kept falling off plan as soon as my cravings got the best of me. I will tell you that if you can do two weeks of low carbing, you'll have gotten through the worst part of breaking your carb addiction. I reached my goal of 135 in May 2008 and decided that I wanted to lose a little more weight afterwards. I have been trying to add back in more of my favorite foods and have to tell you that I am struggling right now and have regained some weight. I was 128, but due to these high carb "binges" of the last two weeks, find myself back up to around 135, again. This is not "horrible", but I feel I have set myself up to fail. Tonight I had a pasta blowout and tomorrow I am returning to Induction level of carbs to break the cycle. This will stop my cravings and within a week or two, I will be back to 128.

So, look around the thread for the PP basics and you can have most of the information that you'll need. The books will help determine how much protein you need daily and how much lean body mass you have.
I'd be glad to help you any way I can and offer additional support!

Good luck and I'll be seeing you around the boards soon!

Debbie

T hank you so much Deb! I'm going to check out the other site as well. Right now, actually. I'd love to be 135 again. Sigh. Well the way I look at weight loss when you really get to that point where you KNOW you have to do it is there's no way but down!!!
Ha. Sigh.

I'm trying to figure out the difference between atkins and PP right now. I know about atkins. Maybe I'll just follow that. I think any form of low carb will work considering the amt of sugar I take it. It's wicked.

Hugs

welcome and nice that somebody else here does protein power!

if you think more protein works better for you, go for it! atkins is and all other high fat diets are not working for everyone. i belive in them but i can't do them!

i could never go under the 6ogr. of crabs for longer than a day without feeling absolutly ill (and iam not talking about something like a induction flu, where you suffer 1-2 weeks and then everything is ok) - i just can't function!

now iam doing PP for about a months and iam living on 40gr. or less a day and have sooo much energy! high protein is definitly what works for me!

similar to you iam good trained, people can never belive how i look in underwear when they just know me dressed and know how much training i do. iam this typical fit person with muscles and a layer of fat over it!
i dream of the day i can finally see my 6pack again, at the moment i can just feel it

for a book i would say try Protein Power Lifeplan, it is a bit like a bible with a lots of informations, but you can start the diet streight away (well you probaly already have that in the last two weeks...)!
you just need to know how much protein you need and then keep carbs under 10gr. for a main... i sometimes have a main with 15gr. and then a snack with 0gr, that works fine, and i even had some higher carb meals (about 40gr. in one meal) on hard training days.

i lost about 6" and 5 lbs in 3 weeks, and this is a lots for me, as iam in a normal weight range. and the best thing it keeped me away from drinking wine during the week, that was one of my bigest problem i had!

let me know if you have more questions!
iam btw. on the other forum too, but there is not soo much traffic, so iam mostly reading here about low carb in common!

I started with the 30 day Low Carb Diet Solution written by the Eades then got the PPLP after I had success with the 30 day plan. I did really well and lost weight on Protein Power. Good luck!

I love the Protein Power Lifeplan book. It is easy to ready and understand plus has lots more very interesting health information in it. I have all their books and that one is my favorite.

Welcome Daisey,
I lurk in the background, but have been doing PP consistently for about a year. I've lost 36 pounds and it's been easy. A few years ago I did Atkins, lost 50 quickly, but couldn't keep it off. I subscribe to Dr. Eades blog (google PP) and love it. PPLP is a book I continuely refer to it. It's great to have new responses on this thread. Maybe we can get it going!
