I miss my fruit
I had forgotten how difficult induction was for me. Specifically with my love for fruit. Now I'm back to cutting my fruit servings drastically. Anyone else miss their fruit?

I have just recently picked up a couple of the Protein Power books, the original and the new one where they base your protein requirements on your weight and not your lean muscle mass. It is a thinner, yellow covered book and I don't think it has Protein Power in the title.
From the little that I have read, the first phase of the diet allows for fruit, vegetables or breads/grains as your 7-10 carbs per meal. Although it isn't a large amount, you could end up having a serving of fruit with every meal, unlike Atkins where you have to climb the carb ladder in order to get fruit. It seems like a very easy plan to follow. See if you can find this book. I bought it on Amazon used so it was pretty cheap. It gives the amount of foods (ie, 1 cup raw cauliflower, 1/2 cup raspberries, etc) of many foods that qualify as a serving of carbs. |

Do you have the name of the new book?
I have been eating some small servings of fruit with one or two of my daily meals. I've gotten used to grabbing an apple or orange as a snack which I can not do now. |

Even with Protein Power, I don't get nearly as much fruit as I'd like to have. Yes, I miss it, but it's either enjoy fruit and stay obese, or give it up to be thin. It sucks to have to make a choice like this.

I love fruit and it was really hard for me on Atkins not to have any. Fresh strawberries from the local farm and fresh peaches in the summer, who says they can't be good for you? I can eat them in moderation on PP, even though the portions are small.

I would also like to eat more fruit, but I know I need to be careful with it. I could easily eat 2-3 bananas or a pound of strawberries which simply is too much sugar. With PP I can eat a few berries or something like half a pear, which is better than nothing

I have fruit every day. True it is a lot smaller portions than I was used to but I adjusted. I save my fruit for the snacks. A piece of apple with cheese, berries and either cream cheese or cottage cheese, a boiled egg with pear. So many combinations available.

WOE: Dr. Richard K. Bernstein & Protein Power
Start Date: March 17, 2009-finally found right lc plan for me
|
I am doing combo of Dr. Richard K. Bernstein and Protein Power...and Dr. Bernstein says no fruit. I have to really watch my blood sugar - testing frequently so fruit is out for me.
I don't mind because I can have desert - have been making low carb ice cream, pudding, etc with whipped cream on top which does not affect my blood sugar. But sometimes I want that kind of tangy, sweet taste that fruit allows - so I get those tubs of sugar free jello - strawberry, orange, etc. and put whipped cream on top. I am so sensitive to sugar that as Dr. Bernstein says, (I tested my b.s. andhe is right for people like me)... I can' even do the kind of jello that comes in packages because they have a tiny amount of stealth sugar in them. I can only do the tubs which so far they have not slipped stealth sugar into...or make my own with DaVinci sugar free syrup and unflavored gelatin.

I have fruit. The PP books say it's ok, in smaller portions, especially lower GI fruits like berries, melon, etc. I have fruit every day, but like other posters, I'm eating smaller portions. Sometimes I have SF jello if I get an especially bad craving. I do sometimes have a little bit of apple, but I have to watch it as the cravings tend to creep back in when I do. I think the yellow book is the 30-day Low-Carb Diet Solution. I LOVE that book (I also read PP and PP lifeplan for the science stuff). It was published in 2003, so you may have trouble finding it.
