new to site but not protein power

Hey all, a little background. Did the induction for two weeks, stayed under 50carbs a day for another six weeks, tryed to gradually go up to even out carb/pro input. Kind of went overboard with carbs. I went on the plan more for the health benefits than weaght loss, although some weight loss was wanted. While I was keeping track and staying the coarse I was feeling much better, more energy, just feeling better in general. Now I'm doing induction again to get back on track and lose those few pounds I gained. My biggest problem was getting enough cals in through the day, by evening I was starving and would end up eating right up to bedtime. This time around I'm going to make it a priority to get enough cals during normal times of the day.
I've gotten in such a bad habit of eating at bedtime that I could use some tips for breaking that habit.
Sorry to be so long but this was an intro.

You might want to up your fat intake a little. That keeps me from being hungry.

Start breaking what you call a "bad habit" by switching the thing you eat before bedtime.

Try eating low or non fat cottage cheese (no fruit or any calories added) for your last meal of the day. It is mostly casein protein which breaks down very slowly and can help your muscles recover from exercise and it fills you up.

If you don't like it, keep eating it until you do. 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese is only 80 calories and 14 grams of protein.

Askthetrainer, that's funny! KEEP EATING IT UNTIL YOU DO! That is so true, I've just never heard anyone say it. haha For anything, it's just the way you fix it. There is a way to fix most things that anyone will like but it does get exhausting finding the right combo. I keep my whey protein on a back shelf and eat mostly casein for the same reason. More filling, least glucogenic, nice slow release.

Don't like cottage cheese, try this (it sounds strange but believe me its good). I didn't like the stuff. So to help get it down I started flavoring it I use sugar-free jello. Yep heard me right. I keep well stocked up with a variety of flavors. But my favs are lemon, lime and black cherry. Just open up a pkt add it(to your taste, not the whole pkt) to about a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese mix thoroughly and enjoy.

I actually like cottage cheese but I never thought of it as a bedtime snack. I recently went through some stressful life changes and lost too much weight. I've gained back what I needed to and now I'm wanting to stick to the program to maintain and because I feel better when eating this way. Thanks for the tip.

Tkdan: You don't even have to go low fat cottage cheese with PP. I find if I eat it before bedtime - it has a relaxing, satisfying effect. Kind of like drinking milk before you go to bed.

I tend to be a nighttime eater too and trying to close the kitchen at 9:00. But I don't feel guilty about 1/2 cup cottage cheese rather than being hungry and going low blood sugar before I go to bed.

There are many books with carb counts and many websites to look things up too. I often go to Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com when I want to know something but I am sure there are many others.

I have heard reference to a fast diet (I have heard more about fat rather than protein) but I am not familiar with it.

Good luck!

To search a forum when you first go to it (like Protein Power forum) there are buttons up at the top. One says "Search this forum". If you click on it you can type in what you are looking for. It is a help but it will bring up a lot of threads but you should be able to locate what you were looking for. When you are in a particular thread, you can search the thread as well, just look for the button. I am not really good at it myself, perhaps others can give you better instructions.
