Calorie Question
Some days I have trouble eating enough calories. I've read a little about the body going into starvation mode, and people disagree on this. If I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full, shouldn't that be ok? If I eat more, even if my overall intake is low, I'm stuffed. I don't always get in all my protein, but come close most days, and my fat intake is adequate. Thanks for for your input - much appreciated. |

You don't want to eat till you're stuffed, especially if you are diabetic.
I'm not totally sure but I think protein intake would be more important than calories. Just curious but are you suppose to eat a certain amount of calories? I have been counting carbs, fiber, protein of everything I eat and then total them each night before I go to bed. Today I started to add calories to my list so that I can possibly avoid a stall in my diet. I can see where those extra calories can creep in and the carb count stay the same just by changing from one type of cheese to another. |

I'm curious about the calories because some days, not all, it can be below 1000. I tend to agree with you that if your protein intake is enough and your carbs are within the acceptable range, then calories should not be a big deal, especially if I'm only eating when I'm hungry and stop eating when I'm full. BUT I also don't want my body to hold onto everything because it thinks I'm starving it. Sounds like I'm answering my own question. If I'm eating till I'm full, then my body shouldn't think I'm starving it. Round and round I go.

IMHO, your calories are low for your current weight. I know this is not Atkins, but PP, but have you read on the main board the interview with Colleen Horowitz of Atkins Nutritionalist? She recommends in the beginning we should be eating around 1800 calories/day.
I know I'm one to talk as I let my calories drop under a 1000 quite often but I uped them the last few days and actually broke a stall. I know some days I really feel full but I know I need to eat as I start having other symptoms than just being hungry. How has your loss been so far with such low calories? Eating up to the minimum protein requirements as suggested by the Eades' has really helped me. Last edited by JONAH'S GRANNY; 06-17-2008 at 12:23 PM.. |

Have lost around 17 lbs. since March. Have been working really hard in the last 2 weeks to eat close to the 120 grms. of protein I need on PP (started off doing SB), but don't always make it and this is with the help of drinking protein shakes at least once a day. But between eating and drinking the water I need, I'm full in a very short time. I do eat coconut oil some days and that helps w/calories. Even so I hardly ever get ofer 1400-1500 daily, more like 1200 on average.

An easy way to get calories up is to sautee your meats and veggies in butter. Add heavy cream to your tea/coffee. Make some richer sauces for dinner. Add both a vinagerette dressing and a mayo style dressing to your salad. Eat fatty rather than lean meat. I do think it would be good to shoot for just a little bit more cals as that seems too low for your body. Last edited by LynnScarlet; 07-27-2008 at 08:06 AM.. |
