Protein Power

Does anyone here do the Protein Power plan? If you do, how is it different from Atkins?

It is very similar! It is a great book, with lots of addition scientific explanation of the benefits of a low carb lifestyle. I remember the basics to be 1) make sure you get enough protein for your body and 2) stay at or below 10g of carbs per meal (30 or so per day).

I lent my book out... Hmmm... I should re-read it.

The authors of Protein Power have a weblog which is chock full of updated info and articles/commentary. Dr. Michael Eades: http://blog.proteinpower.com/drmike/
and his wife Dr. Mary Dan Eades: http://blog.proteinpower.com/drmd/ (with more recipes and stuff)...

Hope this helps.

Protein Power is a great plan! I followed it for a year, tweaked for BFL for another 5 months. Lost about 100 lbs. I loved it & had no problems sticking to plan. I never once went off plan the entire time I was on it.

I believe it is actually 40g net is you add the optional snacks. I used 30g.

PP does not have induction and you never have to give up fruit. You have a minimum protein requirement based on LBM. A lot of people who find Atkins too limiting find great success with Protein Power. I never considered doing Atkins myself. It sounded extremely limiting to me when I heard about it.

Protein Power is sometimes called the thinking man's diet.

Protein Power is some great reading!!! LOTS of valuable information in the book, even if you don't follow the plan. A definite must have IMO.

The Drs. Eades have a cooking show, Low Carb Cookworx, that DH and I LOVE to watch - not only are their recipes great, but they go into detail about which oils are best to use and why, what antioxidants are in which foods, etc. I think they are great.

Phase one is what we have described above. Never seemed like induction to me.
