protein power vs atkins
What is the difference in these two. any one have any luck on protein power plan. I have done them all except this. ONly plan I lost on was Michael Thurmans 6 week body make over but I nearly starved to death. Did lose 27 pounds in 2 months. No salt, dairy, red meat, very very limited..no salad dressing...no wonder I lost!!!

Cindy - I've read the Protein Power book and I think the only similarities in PP and Atkins are that both are low carb/higher protein eating plans. Atkins focuses on a very low carb approach where you gradually increase the carbs as you go through the phases, and PP focuses on eating the right amount of protein for your age/size/activity level. Atkins is what worked for me for losing weight, but now that I'm maintaining I'm eating more along the lines of a Protein Power diet (high protein/lower fat).
Have you read either of the books?

I'm following Protein Power and I like it.
It is very similar to Atkins, slightly higher in carbs at first (30 instead of 20) and is a little more liberal as far as fruit goes. It is not low fat. I like "Protein Power LifePlan" better than the original "Protein Power" book. It has good info for anyone following a low carb WOE, explains why low carb works, cholesterol, and why fat is necessary for health. I agree with Julia that the best thing is to research and choose a plan that makes sense to you. Then commit to it for at least a few months before deciding if it is the one you want to continue with. ![]()

I think Protein Power did the best job of explaining low carb ... but I prefer losing with Dr. Atkins. It's simple and effective.
I will incorporate some of Dr. Schwarzbeins principles into my maintenance plan someday. (Along with higher carb Dr. Weil.) ~jezzie |
