Has anyone gone from Atkins to Protein Power
The reason I ask is that with Protein Power you get 30 grams of carbs per day, and if you have been staying at 20 with Atkins, can you still loose on Protein Power even with upping your carbs. I am considering this because you can eat a very little fruit. Anyone with this experience . Thanks in advance.

![]() Atkins is not synonymous with eating 20 grams of carbs per day forever. Induction is 2 weeks, then you are supposed to move on with OWL and start adding back healthy carbs. Staying at Induction forever (or until you are within 10 pounds of goal or whatever) is a variation to the core plan. I have a high CCLL (critical carbohydrate level for loss) and can eat as many as 60 grams of carbs per day and still remain in ketosis. I usually dont eat that many--my average is about 40. I eat fruit nearly every day. I always combine it with fat to minimize the impact on my blood sugar. I most definitely consider myself to be on Atkins. Just because a plan "gives" you 30 or 50 or whatever carbs per day, doesn't mean your body will be able to tolerate it, or that you will be able to lose weight on it. Just because a plan allows whole grains and fruit doesn't mean that your body will be able to tolerate those items either. The wonderful thing about the Atkins plan is that the book goes into detail about how to customize the diet to suit YOU. I moved from Protein Power to Atkins
I read the Protein Power book first and found it way more comprehensive than when I read Atkins. I began on PP years ago lost 15 lbs and was happy. However, on PP the 30 grams of carbs is TOTAL. Not deducting fiber. (At least not the edition I read a few years back) I think most folks on Atkins take in 30 or more carbs in a day if we’re not deducting fiber.
Also PP, I found, treated every carb the same. Bread, cookies, orange juice etc... and didn't take into account upsets in blood sugar levels caused by Aspartame and the likes. This time around I’m doing Atkins and feel that it is a WOE I can keep to for life. I am helping my mother to start Atkins, and am having her read protein Power first, just to get the low-down on this WOE. I think Atkins is the most refined and best researched Low Carb plan though.

I want to wish u luck if u switch over to Protein Power and i wanted to tell u , that the plan also is use to suit your needs
. I for one have the the PP and ATkins Book, i prefer PP, it is a better eating plan for me. I start at eating 50 carbs at 211lbs, and look where i am now, but i understand what u mean about jumping up on the carbs, i never done induction never thought it was necessary when i read the book, which is why am a PP follower Good luck ![]() By the way i really recommend u get the book it has a lot of info and formulas to help u find the ideal weight u really should be compare to looking at a chart ![]() I love PP!!

I started on Protein Power, so can't comment on switching from Atkins. The best thing is to read "Protein Power LifePlan" and see which plan you think would be best for you. They are very similar and both are great plans IMHO. |

I have the old and the new book and they both let you deduct fiber

PP makes recommendations about the types of carbs you eat, but not rules. They recommend veggies, fruit, and whole grains, but their concern is the total number. I remember one anecdote from the book (the first one, I think) about one patient who did best having a small piece of real chocolate everyday - he just counted the carbs. There are a couple of hard and fast rules including no trans fats, but the rest are merely strong recommendations.
So, both groups of people are right! |

Hi Julie!!
Both plans are very similar. I like protein power better because I know to eat my 30-35 gms protein at every meal which really really fills me up and keeps me satisfied for 5-6 hours. I could probably do the same thing on Atkins, but hey... Also, I do better aiming for 7-10 carbs per meal, rather than having a daily allotment. I just plan each meal and don't eat anything else. Unless I'm having a 'bad' day, LOL!!! |
