This is just terribly sad. I started in February 2003, and already Dr. Atkins has changed my life. The dog-earred copy of the DANDR I carry around in my purse is like my bible. I still remember when I first read his book and the light bulb went off "Hey I am addicted to carbs!". I wish he had entered my life sooner.

Thank you Dr. Atkins...you were a man of great integrity.

I will be forever thankful for having become enlightened by his work. May he rest in peace while I stand as testimony to its validity and carry on the fruits of his labor.

Dr Atkins first helped my mother lose her weight for good way back in 1977. Then his WOE helped me to lose 65 pounds and get rid of insulin. I will be forever greatful to him. Thank you. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family.

I don't know what to say . . .

but Thank You for showing me how to get my life back.

If everyone you've helped lit one candle tonight, we'd shine like the star we lost today.

Though I am saddened by Dr Atkins passing, I feel as though he has made such an indelible mark on the world (inc those of us subscribed to this board) that he did not pursue his passion in living better lives across the board in vain.

He was truly a pioneer in the cause of better living, and most of us have him to thank personally for chaging ours around.

I have his family and close friends and colleagues in my thoughts at this time. I owe him a debt of gratitude for changing my life and my boyfriends, as we are living healthier, sugar free, low carb lives.

Regards,
Taryn

A simple thank you for saving my life.

I feel like I have truly lost a well-repected friend in my eyes.

Without your dedication and preseverance in the face of an onslaught of always negative press, I would weigh 240 pounds, have diabetes, and probably the outlook of a shortened life.

May you be wrapped in the loving arms of God, and
find peace.

My thoughts and prayers are going out to those who remain behind.

You Have Given Me Hope...

I want to thank Dr. Atkins for giving me hope. I had none whatsoever before I started researching and learning about his WOL. I was about to give up. I just wish I had started earlier so I could have had the chance to speak with him or write him. As many of you have said, not only did he teach us a great way of eating and living, but he stood up in the face of great opposition and held his ground, which is inspiration in itself. He will be sorely missed, and there will never be another quite like him.

Thank you Dr. Atkins for being you. For standing up for what you knew was accurate in health care, and for giving me a way to make myself healthier by helping me to loose unwanted, unhealthy pounds. God Bless your family during their time of sorrow.

Because of Dr. A's harwork, commitment and tenacity my life continues to improve on a daily basis!

Before beginning this wol on December 27, 2002 I was plagued with high blood pressure and terrible water retention. I took 2 blood pressure pills a day in addition to a prescription diuretic and potassium. I was plagued with constant leg cramps, fatigue, headaches, had just been diagnosed as a borderline diabetic and was experiencing an increase in asthma attacks! My weight had ballooned to 264.5 lbs. and my size 22/24 clothes were getting too tight!

Thanks to Dr. A and his relentlessness in getting the word out about low carb eating, I am almost 4 months into the most life changing experience I could have ever imagined!I am now down 30 lbs and 4 sizes!!! I no longer take any prescription medications and my blood pressure and blood sugar are all within normal ranges!! I have not had problems with my hands or feet swelling since the second week of this WOL nor have I had an asthma attack since the first month!!!

I no longer suffer from depression, low self-esteem or fear of being seen in public! In other words, thanks to Dr. A I have my life back!!

God Bless you Dr. A! Rest in Peace and, if you have time, look in on us every now and then! We promise to make you proud!

I was saddened to hear about the loss of such a great man. My prayers go out to his family. We must now carry on his crusade and defend this WOE that he fought so religiously to educate us on. I know many of us shun away from criticism by telling others you are "low carbing" or "doing away with sugar and white flour" as if being associated with Dr. Atkins is a disease or some pariah.

I challenge you to proudly say, "I am doing Atkins" when asked about your weight loss, and arm yourself with all the wealth of knowledge about this WOE so the man will never be forgotten for what he has brought to so many of us. Dr. Atkins, may you finally rest in peace.
