Glad You are Here

I am really inspired by all your posts and pictures.

I'm on round two (after about 12 years) of being on my favorite low-carb progam, The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet. Last time, I lost 40 lbs. Unfortunately, I gained most of it back within the past 2 years. I figured that after 10 years, it wasn't coming back. I treated my body like a garbage dump and it repaid me for that. Back to square one!

My mom and I both started changing our eating habits immediately after Thanksgiving. I have lost 5 lbs in five days. We live several states away, but have been checking in with each other daily to discuss what we've eaten (our own support group).

She found this web site and sent me the link, and I'm SO GLAD she did. I hope to be able to post pictures of my progress like many of you have done.

Keep up the great work everyone!

OK, you are my hero today! Good job there!!! I am a bit older (56) but quite like you at the beginning. I know I am over 330 and am 5' 10". I am starting my hypoglycemic diet next Sunday, helps me to have a start date in mind. Basically I will eat very low card, mostly protein and fat. And I'm going back to the pool for my deep end water aerobics class, probably will have to be the teacher! We lost our teacher months ago and it will be good for me. So there I am. Pleas share whatever you like with me. I'm looking for some support because I know this is tough - but do able!!! Happy 2012!

I made this to remind myself of how far I have come but I need to go further, Suzie you hit me cause you are built similar to me, I was over 350 the scale didnt go high enough so who knows what I weighed, if I can do it you can do it, I never thought I could!!!

I was 350, 270 last New years in the black dress, and 202 in the red, I ate over Christmas and gained some, but I am back with a vengeance this New Years, I am going to get to 175, 1/2 my body weight! I am determined!

In 2005 I was going to get my tubes tied, I went to the pre-op and they said you are too heavy for our scale you need to go down to the loading dock to be weighed, I said um NO, and ran out and never did have surgery, so I was over 350 pounds, not sure how much over. So friends of ours had started Atkins, and told us about it, me and my ex husband started and lost 70 pounds each in about 5 months, went on a trip to Mexico, gained 17 in one week and then for 5 years I would start and restart never really sticking to it, got up to 325, and as low as 289. So last year on my son's B-day 9/27/10 I said I am going to do this no matter what, my current fiancee and I were talking about getting married, and I knew I couldnt ruin another marriage being so fat and miserable with myself, and he is skinny, people probably thought I was eating his food! I have never been thin, around age 9 I got my period and started gaining a lot of weight, I have not weighed less than 200 pounds since I was 13, and right now I am 1 pound away, and I just turned 43! I started and lost weight but refused to exercise, finally in Jan I said OK I will join the gym, well I ended up loving it and have become a gym rat!!! I also ran my first race, I could never run! I have a tough mudder 5K with obstacle in November that I am looking forward to! I get married 10/9, so it is coming up, never did I think I would lose 104 so far in less than a year! My advice is it works, if you follow it and listen to your body and what works and what doesnt! And exercise if you are not, 1 pound of fat is like 3 fists, 1 pound of muscle is 1 fist, so you will look better! I have not lost a lot of pounds in the last 3 months but I am wearing clothes that are so much smaller! I had a lot of arm skin, I will show you, I had my arms done in April, I lost 35 pounds since then and really started working out hard after I healed to get them in shape. I plan to have about 25 pounds of stomach skin removed next Spring if I can scrape up the money!!!!!
If I can do this anyone can! I never ever thought I would do it, get a journal, talk to people, find a support and you can do it!!!!

Here I am in 2005 at my worst

This was 2002 a year or two after my son was born, my stomach is laying on the counter, ughghg

THis was close to last year when I started at 305

Dec 2010

Jan 2011

So that was 40 pounds and no gym, the rest are once I joined the gym and I go about 6 times a week plus running
Late Jan 2011

2/11

3/11

April pre surgery

after bandages removed, I lost 3 inches of hanging skin

May 2011

June 2011

July 2011

August

Push ups, LOL

My wedding gown I will be wearing

My 43rd last weekend

And that is that, I am 3 pounds form my doc's goal I am 5'10 but I want to try to get 180-175 if I can before surgery!

Everyone's pics/stories are awesome! So much inspiration! Just wondering about the arm surgery. Would you do it again, did it scar, and was it worth it? I have already been contemplating it.

I didn't have arm surgery but I did have an extensive mommy makeover and let me tell you it was SO WORTH IT! I have a cute belly button that I hadn't seen in years and my girls have never looked better HA HA!

Love the pics everyone - great motivation

This is my first post here in LCF, so I think this is a good place to start.

I started low carb Jan. 2010

And this is now. I have 45 lbs more to lose for a total of 109lbs.

The first pic is from Halloween of 2006, about 3 months before I started back to l/c. My start weight was 351.5, so I was probably somewhere around 340-350. The next picture is Labor Day 2011, I would guess around 155-160. The next picture is me on 10/1/11, around 150, and the last pic is the week before Christmas 2011 when DH caught me napping while getting a pedicure I'm about the same size then that I am now: 144-145.

I've been yo-yo'ing since Christmas, but decided to get serious again Sunday and get these last 20 lbs off once and for all!!

129lbs+ lost, 181lbs+/- to go

I ran across this forum while I was surfing the net for low carb recipes. At my heaviest (that I know of, although it is most likely more) I was at 450. Currently, I am back to the weight I was 8 years ago (I don't know the exact number I was then, but at least I can get into the clothes that I had 8 years ago).

I started atkins at the beginning of March 2011, sticking to it (with a few cheats here and there) until right before thanksgiving in 2011. When I started atkins I weighed around 425 and in December 2011, I was at 325 - 100lbs lighter! I got off of atkins over the holidays and have not been able to stick to it like I did last year. Which is the reason why I am only down to 4lbs - although I have lost and gained quite a bit over the last 3 months. So I've decided to start back up again this week. I have around 180lbs more or less to go. My short term goal is to get under 300 and get into my size 26 jeans that I bought a few months ago. Accountability, portion control, eating enough protein, and consistent exercise is key for me.

I'll post pictures later.

Have a great day!
Denise

At my heaviest, I was 313. I have lost and gained the same 100 pounds over and over again. It's nice to know that people come here to "re-start" without shame. after all, we all know the hardest part is the maintenance! I hope and pray that this time, when I reach my goal, that I can keep it for life! having said that, I am less than half-way to my goal!

Y'all are such an inspiration. I am only 8lbs down on my 100 lb journey, over the last two months I have not been as strict as I should be. But after reading about the successes here it makes me want to do better for me. It's also so great to see people that succeed with over 100 to lose. I am very impressed, much love to you all.

Lost 158 pounds, Before and Now Pictures

The sudden death of my wife of 37 years from diet related causes changed my life. I knew I had to make a change or I would be next. For the sake of my children still at home I began to study. I began living a low carb high fat lifestyle two and a half years ago. I’ve lost 158 pounds, my type 2 diabetes is gone along with a heart condition. I feel great. I’m 6 foot tall and now weigh 182 pounds, that’s down from 340 pounds. If I can do it you can do it.
