Rate the Products!!!!

I've been checking out some of the low carb products out there, with varied results. I'd LOVE to hear other's opinions of some of the products, might save all of us some money :-) I haven't tried a ton but I'll throw out some that I have tried and hopefully others will add products and their ratings too :-)

(PLEASE, no flames, this is just about personal experiences and opinions!

Atkin's Pancake Mix

I found this passable, borderline. Actually it tasted better to me the first few bites than the latter ones - seemed to get worse with time (though my dogs who are very picky gobbled up my leftovers, go figure LOL)

Atkin's Bread Mix

Ugh, not sure another term to use that's accurate.

Atkin's Endulge

The peanut butter cups are WONDERFUL! There's very little difference between these and reece's. I am not a huge candy fan, but it's nice to have that little snack that feels sinful once in a while and this does the trick for 2 carbs for 3 little cups. The chocolate bars aren't bad either (I'm just not a huge chocolate fan!).

Atkin's Bars

These aren't too bad (not really great either), although the coconut and chocolate one is pretty good.

Soy Dream Bars

6 g carb and like a little ice cream sandwich - comes in vanilla and chocolate and are VERY GOOD for an occasional treat.

*** I tried a small little caramel type bar from the health food store, not Atkin's but perhaps Carbolite. It was very, very good as well (2 carbs). I also tried some soy bread (low carb) from the grocery store and it was just horrible (I'd list the name but I dumped it in the trash pretty quickly, plus it was 4.60 for a small loaf - YIKES!).

Has anyone tried the Atkin's blueberry mix or sourbough bread mix? I have both but now I'm a little hesitant to try them....

Would also love to know the reviews of those who have tried the "Flax-o-meal" (I believe that's the name).

I tried the blueberry muffins...and found them to be good. A bit spongy but are much better the second day. I found myself eating too many of them though and had to get rid of them. I should have frozen the majority of them right from the start and then took them out one at a time. HTH

Trying products

Yes, my experience with the pancake mix was similiar although I didn'thave the Atkins syrup (found it today) and my three dogs would have gobbled had I given them to them!

I'm anxious to find the BUN Mix... That looks great.

The Advantage Bar I found that is great is the Mocha one . I do find that the Advantage bars have tended to set some bowelling in motion... I'm still adjusting to woe so maybe that is why.

SHAKES added to seltzer tastes like ice cream soda. YUMMMMM

The teriyaki sauce was superb. I've found several marinade/dressings in the natural foods sections of big grocers or in health foods stores of a FEW that have no sugar/carbs etc. and like marinades skinless chicken breasts and cooked them right in the marinade with the cover one, resulting in delicous tender mouth melting chicken. One was a black olive feta cheese marinade. YUMMMMM

Am heading to Fla for conference in the morning with my deviled eggs, mac nuts, sunflower seeds and cheese all squirreled away I do hope that security doesn't think it's some bizarre Atkins PLOT! ;-)

I just recently tried the Atkins Banana Nut Bread mix. I really enjoyed it, it tasted good and had great texture. Little pieces of nuts made it taste pretty close to homemade. It does not rise like reg. bread, and it is hard to have only one slice. I agree with the above poster, freeze them immediately, and then take one out as needed.

I've tried the Banana nut bread, blueberry muffins and the cranberry muffins. This is what I have to say...

This is the best tasting sawdust I've ever eaten....

Products I have tried

Atkins Quiches: EXCELLENT...I love them for breakfast when I am sick of eggs & bacon.
Carb Counters Cheesecake Mix (from Atkins): The no-cook recipe is the only way to go. DH wouldn't eat the baked version of the recipe.
Atkins Bread Machine Mix: HORRID.
Atkins Ketch-a-Tomato: Fairly good, spicier & sweeter than Heinz.
Endulge Bars: Both chocolate bar and pb cups are great.
Atkins Muffin Mix: Banana Nut is very good. Have not tried other flavors.
Senator Goldwater's Chili (from Atkins): If you like beefy, spicy chili, this is excellent. I make it with double meat and no beans, add sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese and it is wonderful, but really spicy.

LOL on the sawdust

dc04321:

You're right, the CARBOLITE products are great (the candy anyway - I've tried the caramel/peanut and the toffee). You're also right about not eating much of it since the result isn't a lot of fun (found this out through a diabetic friend who once overindulged in sugar free gummy bears LOL).

On the prices of the products - oh yes, they're too expensive... BUT, they're also cheaper at the Vitamin Shoppe... if bought in a carton they're about 1 dollar each (they also sell all the Atkin's products at reduced prices). Didn't realize that Walmart had them too (noticed that above) - at least there are SOME options for a low carber these days (when I first tried the diet in the mid 70's there was ZIP! )

Still interested in knowing about that flax-o-meal... anyone know?

Anyone tried that cauliflower "mashed potatoes" recipe... it sounds disgusting to me but others seem to like it. Opinions??

I've tried Flax-O-Meal and like it. Butter Pecan is my favorite. It's better with a little butter and cream added to it.

I recently tried the Keto Hot Cereal in 2 flavors: apple cinnamon and strawberries & cream. All I can say is YUM!!!!! This stuff is delicious!!! I like it better than the Flax-O-Meal.

I also love the Flax-O-Meal. It's a nice treat when I just can't eat another egg.

Has anyone tried the new Atkins Batter Mix? I saw it on his website the other day. It's suppose to be for deep frying (shrimp, chicken, etc.). It's a little pricey so I don't want to buy it until I hear some reviews first. (I'm cheap that way!)

I really like the Carbolite bars - the crispy chew one is my favorite. And Atkins corn muffins are awesome.

My latest find was at Schnucks Supermarket :

"Healthy Life" bread (white = 6g & wheat = 5g per slice)
8g carbs
3g dietary fiber
-------
5g usable carbs per slice
The package specifically states it's for high-protein & restricted carb dieting.

...and at Wal-Mart :

"Log Cabin" sugar-free syrup
12g carbs
12g sugar alcohol (Sorbitol 9g, Malitol 3g)
-------
= 0g (right?...somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please.)
Made with Splenda.

Needless to say I made some french toast for dinner last night.

I went to GNC to find some Atkins Bake Mix and the guy tried to sell me the Pancake Mix instead since they didn't carry the mix. I told him I didn't think pancake mix would taste too good as a pizza crust. Yuck!

The Atkins' Caramel Nut Chew tastes very much like eating a Snickers candy bar. They're tiny little bars, but like all the rest don't eat the whole thing. Only having 1/2 sends me to the john.

RE: Flax-o-Meal and Keto hot cereals...

Since they are so expensive, I purchased flaxmeal (ground) and bran at the healthfood store (very inexpensive to buy them). Mix some together, add a little water and cream and put it in the microwave for 1-2 min. I add either splenda or SF syrup (almond, butter toffee, etc.) some cinnamon, and once in awhile some nut bits. I have really enjoyed this mix and it is much less costly.

Just measure and so you can count the carbs.

I also bought the Atkins dry shake mix and said no way after I made it. I had been so used to a Metrx shake everyday for lunch. God I miss them. Anyhow, My solution for the dry mix is to make a bunch of choc moose(LOL). Take a scoop of mix and add some heavy cream, water and a pack of splenda. SOOOOOOOO good and filling.

I really like the Creamy Cinnamon Bun Breakfast Bars from Atkins. They have 2 net carbs per bar. I also ordered Atkins Strawberry Syrup...tastes great with cream cheese, and 0 carbs. I tried the EAS shakes...the Freanch Vanilla one tastes pretty good, IMO.

As far as the "fake" mashed potatoes made with cauliflower, I think that it comes pretty close to the real thing

My products

Ok, this is my first post, and I've been looking for a place to swap notes on LC products. I'm normally the only guy in a female Atkins message board. It's a lot of fun but it'll be nice to talk to a guy every once in a while (GRUNT)

Anyway, I get all my stuff from www.netrition.com. They have a pretty big selection and their shipping is $5 no matter how much you buy. Here's what I've had so far.

Keto Ketchup: Made with Splenda. Good stuff! A little sweeter than "normal" ketchup, but really good on burgers and meatloaf

Atkins Bread Mix: Same as everybody else, I felt the technicolor yawn approach.

La Tortillas: OMG people. These things are Incredible. If you haven't tried em, you're missing out! 12 carbs - 9g fiber = 3 carbs per. The possibilities are endless. Breakfast burritos, mexican burritos, BLT wraps. This morning I had a Philly Cheese Steak wrap that was to die for. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

Ketogenics Bread Machine mix: Edible. Still had a little bit of that chemical smell that the Atkin's mix had, but not half as bad. Can be covered up with crunchy PB or tuna fish. Also came with a little packet of yeast, so it rose much better than Atkin's. Just don't toast it. Toasting leads to the burnt hair smell.

Carbsense: Flax-O-meal Vanilla Almond: Not bad at all. Add butter, splenda, and cinnamon and you've got a very good alternative to eggs with the fiber to help things keep movin'

Also, the very best pancake syrup I've found so far is the Log Cabin SF syrup made with splenda. Sold in Wal-Mart. It's Great.

I'm trying to try something new with every order to netrition. I put in an order two days ago, and I'll let you guys know how they turn out after I get it all.

My top of the list favorite is Atkins corn bread mix. I like sweet corn bread so I add a packet of Splenda to it and it is wonderful.
I very much enjoy the pancake mix. Would like the syrup to be a bit thicker.
I like Atkins Ketchup. I think it tastes like ****************tail sauce. I use it on everything.
The Keto banana pudding is delicious.
Had Keto pizza dough tonight. Hard to roll but in the end it tasted like real pizza!!
DH surprised me with "fake" mashed potatoes last night. All I can say is I was in heaven. I think I could live off those.

Carb Foods

Hi everyone

The best foods I am finding:

Le Carb Icecream from Super Walmart....An excellent treat. I bought all flavors and they are the best!!

Atkins Corn Bread Muffins..excellent..put butter on them and reheat and they taste fantastic. The other kinds are very good.

Keto Bread Mixes - The only one I can stomache is the Cinnamin bread. It is fairly good for bread mix if it is toasted.

Atkins Cruncher Chips - AWESOME.. the sour cream and onion and the cheese are fantastic!! I used the plain with a tuna salad and dipped them. It was great!

La Tiarra Taco shells - only 2 carbs a piece. They are like mini tacos and I ussually eat three loaded with meet and cheese and all the fixings at a sitting.

The Carbolite Chocolate bars and excellent along with the Endulge Bars.

ok these are Hubbys responces to the products .. If i had tried them i will post about that also .

Keto bannan nut hot cereal mix ... all he could say was YUM YUM YUM ... lol
Fles meal , protein powder cinnimon salt and Divinci syrup also makes a very yummy hot cereal. This one i tried and it was very yummy !
Whey protein chocolate powder to make shakes with is VERY yummy to both of us .
We hated the Atkins enduldge bars but loved the carbolite candy bars .
The walden farms BBQ sauce and Choloclate syrup (for ice cream) were both Yummy to us both .
Lecarb ice cream almond and choloclate was great !!!!! and MIL tried the lemon and said that was also yum yum but she hated the vanillia .
I have the blueberry muffins on order so i will have to see how it taste then . Other then those items all the low carb things have been home made . And i got to say everything was VERY yummy .

Now where in the wrold do i get these taco shells and are they expensive ? Do they have diffrent flavors? and if so what kind dose everyone like ?
Also intrested in the bake mix (like deep frying mix) that atkins has on his site now .

Thanks for all the reviews they all sound like pretty great items .

My solution for thin, runny pancake syrup: Melt some butter in microwave. Add some cold LC pancake syrup to the hot butter. It will thicken up and you will have a maple flavored butter which will stay on top of the pancakes and not soak in, and you can use less.

Everyone: Wow... keep em' coming :-) This is great info!

It's funny how diverse opinions can be on food (I hate those EAS shakes, tasted like barrium for an upper GI to me LOL) but some love them! (I have 3 left in my frig, please come get them ;-)

I guess it's like a date the other night who chided me about not liking sushi (I don't even like cooked fish, much less raw fish). I thought for a minute and said "ok, let's make a deal... I will each sushi if you will share my next plate of liver and onions." He said "point made"! LOLOLOL

Maria Lisa : I also would like to know where to get the taco shells, would be nice to have something to hold food in once in a while

CarbsNot - great idea on the syrup.

BodyMindSoul - where did you get the Jokn'Al preserves? AND, did you like the soy flour (I've bought some but as yet have not used it)? :-)

ATKINS STEAK SAUCE: Okay, a decent replacement for A-1, but not as spicy.

ATKINS CAFE AU LAIT SHAKE: NOT fabulous, took one sip and washed the rest down the drain.

LA TORTILLA: So far I've only made a quesadilla with them, but yum!

ATKINS CINNAMON BUN BAR (not the new ones): Not great, edible with coffee or tea. Wouldn't buy again.

JUST THE CHEESE CHIPS: BLECH!!! Had to spit that out and threw the whole bag away.

I guess I haven't had alot of luck so far! I'll keep trying!
