Congrats and I can relate to the short lived results of yo-yo diets.. Lose 30 gain back 40 has unfortunately been my m.o. the past few years. That's why I'm looking for a lifestyle change that I can realistically maintain long term. Good luck.. |

Hi Everyone
Just started induction today and am thankful to have found such a great site with such a wealth of information. Have gone up and down with my weight for many years and am ready to lose and keep it off. I am a little worried about how to stay on the plan and still cook meals my family enjoys and also about breakfast. I am not a big egg eater and was wondering if the Atkins bars can be used in the induction phase. Thanks so much |

Hello!
I've been lurking around this board since September 2009 when I first thought of going low carb as an alternative to lap band surgery. I sort of half-way low carbed for that month, cutting out bread, pasta, potatoes and rice to see if I could exist without my comfort foods and started Atkins Induction for real on October 1st. I have since lost 35 pounds and 14 inches off my hips! I've been hovering around 150 for the past month and a half, but I am not worried, because I am still losing inches. I have also started a wonderful exercise program (Raquel Welch's Total Beauty and Fitness) which is mostly about toning, and giving my muscles back the strength they had lost due to inactivity in an easy and relaxed way. I have to say that this board is one of the best that I've visited. Very encouraging and informative, with lots of long term members who inspire me. Thanks to everyone! IlianaCatsPawn |

Hello! I'm on week 3 of low carb plan, lost 16 pounds so far.
Yay! I know low carb works for me better than any other plan... and I've tried a lot of them. After watching my weight creep up for the past 3 years...I finally said ENOUGH! and took charge of my life again. I was a member of this group years ago. Stumbled back on it completely by accident. I even remembered my log in info. lol Deanna |

Hi from Oreogn
I have been lurking this site for years now and finally decided to join. I lose about 50 pounds doing LC a few years ago, then I got pregnant and ballooned up beyond belief. I have been back at it for 3 days and with some minor adjustments and tweaks I think I have it down. So far so good.
Look forward to meeting everyone! Cheers ![]() |

still not tired of LC at 8.5 weeks
It's a good thing really... Just got home from school, its 10:52 and ordered a late nite cheese pizza with extra cheese. I just eat the tops and not the crusts.... not a good habit, but only had a grilled chicken breast this afternoon with a slice of provolone cheese melted on it... umm it was good, but that was all I had all day. The pizza is a necessity, really it is. I don't deprive myself and it allows me to stay on plan. This is really working and I don't want to stop until goal.. and I don't want to gain ever again, I am way too old to be carrying around this amount of weight. SO, I will eat this way for the rest of my life however, I will eat pasta and bread one day a week. Well, that is the plan anyway.

A little under 2 weeks and I'm down 17 lbs.. Have had to re-introduce myself to the belts in my closet and my boxers no longer cut off the circulation in my thighs..

Hi,
This site is wonderful and has so much information for a newbie like me. A little of my history - I gained weight after the birth of my son, way back in 1990. I hadn't been able to lose, despite trying many diets. In 2006, I went on Nutrisystem and lost 50 lbs. to reach my goal weight. Since then, the pounds have slowly crept up, and now I have 30 lbs. to lose to be myself again. The person inside is that goal weight, and I felt wonderful when I was there. I'm 55, walk 1 1/2 hours a day with my dog, and do cardio and yoga workouts 3 times a week. So why does my weight keep creeping up? I think the carbs may be the answer. I noticed that when I eat carbs, I feel bloated and sluggish. And I'm hungry again a while later, and crave, guess what? Carbs, of course. I had thought that low carb diets were unhealthy, and since I have high cholesterol, would not be right for me. But after reading all the studies, and how so many have lowered their cholesterol, I've reconsidered. Anyway, I'm ready to make these changes, and my husband is joining me. We'll be starting on Monday, as we're going away this weekend. Today we're grocery shopping, so I'll have the foods I need and won't be tempted to fall back into old habits. I hope to make friends here and learn all I can. Thanks! Vivian |

Vegetables???
This may be answered elsewhere but since it is the newbie page, I'll try here!
I love my salads and am wondering when it says 1 cup of lettuce does that mean 1 cup of packed lettuce or just loosely packed? Not quite sure how to measure it. Thanks! |

I was able to start my induction phase yesterday, even though we were away for the weekend, so today's my 2nd full day. (My husband thoughtfully packed everything I'd need). I was so surprised to find I wasn't hungry and have been feeling great.
My kitchen is stocked with all the foods I need to stay on plan, and I'm looking forward to dinner tonight. Vivian |

Good morning all! My name's Theresa and I'm in the lovely city of Chicago.
I'm new to posting, but I've been lurking for quite some time. I'm here for the recipes, mostly! You folks know how to cook!!! I'm low carbing due to recent weight loss surgery. So far, I've lost 155lbs and am under 300 for the first time since high school. I'd like to be, ultimately, 150lbs-175lbs, depending on how I look when I get down to those sizes. I'm 35, married, 4 dogs and 2 cats. No human kids. I love to go for walks and lift weights for exercise, although I think I have a hernia so I need to get to the doctor to have that looked at and it's put the weights on hold for the moment. For hobbies, I like to read, do needlecrafts, watch horror/sci-fi movies and play World of Warcraft. My husband and I also play tennis whenever we can. |

Off to a great start?
Couldn't figure out what to have for dinner, so opted for the Low-Carb $6 Burger from Carl's. When I looked at the nutrition breakdown later, it scared me.
