I, like Camelot, have not been able to find the newbie info, says the page no longer exists. I have not followed the plan in almost 10 years and 60 lbs. I just can't see me succeeding on a low fat plan and I like this plan when I get used to it. (You know, not stopping for a burger and fries on a whim, as if that is a good idea, LOL). I know I have forgotten a lot of the rules and if I am going to do this want to do it right!!!

Hi Guys,
I'm Dawn and I have to loose 115 pounds I am currently 270.8. I set my first goal at 200 I would love to loose it by Sept but I know that is a little unrealistic but I am going to give it a try. I am doing the Lean for Life program.
I started today and so far so good I am just hungry 'But I Can Do It"!!!

I'm not a newbie but I need the encouragement as a newbie. I'm ready to slowly start working on improving my health again. It seems like it's been forever since I have controlled my eating and exercised. Although I have gained inches all over my body, I feel it most in my stomach and waist area which is physically hurting my chest/ribs and making it hard to breath when I tie my shoes or paint my toe nails. I can't even walk short distances without getting out of breath. My current weight is 180 lbs. and I'm 5'2" on (01/17/10). I have to start somewhere so this is where I chose to start. I need someone or something to make me accountable.

Hello everyone,

started low carbing 10 days ago. Not much weight loss so far, but I am determined to stick with it as I have had very little hunger and no cravings!

Good luck to everyone!

Back to Basics

Hi, I'm Kerrie- this is my second attempt at Low Carbing- I haven't officially started yet, but I know that this site was a great resource for me in 2003 when I lost 70 lbs in 9 months! I am larger now than I have ever been, with the help of anti-depressants, I think. Of course the doctor swears that cannot be what has happened- I have been on many message boards that confirm that those meds make some people gain weight. I feel like I am one of them, and I want to try to get down to a more comfortable weight. Without starving, and feeling bad about the "suffering" I have to do when others can enjoy good food.

So, starting here, arming myself with good tips and tricks, planning my meals and groceries and going to start low carbing on Monday, February 1st. Everyone's before and after pics are so encouraging! I hope to eventually get down to 184- a weight at which I felt very comfortable and healthy at before-losing 130 lbs in a year is a stretch- but I think I can do it!

Wish me luck! Looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Kerrie

Hi everyone, Im new to this fourm and would really appreciate some help. Im 5ft 3 and 134 pounds, although I know im not overweight I am extremely unhappy and uncomftorable in my clothes etc. With a stressful year in 2009 due to final exams I put on a stone which is refusing to shed! I've tried counting calories but really I don't over eat, give or take a chocolate bar which I now have completely cut out. Rather than lowering my calorie intake I am going to limit my carb intake. I have cut out bread rice pasta 100% and now fill up on veggies and fruit. Because I only want to lose one stone I wasnt sure if I should be too fussy on what veg I eat and dont eat, is this important? I also try exercise when I can, I go for a walk or to the gym 2-3 times a week. Following my new low carb diet plan, how long will it take to shed these dredded pounds?

Hello to all
I started this journey Nov 4, 2009, and would like to have lost 30 - 35 lbs when I finish it. I have so far lost 16 lbs, so far. I seem to hit sticking points for 2-3 weeks at a time, and not sure why. I am faithful with what I eat and drink. I do have hypothyroidism and take synthroid 50mcg a day. Does anyone know if this can slow my weight loss. Would love any and all advice.
P.S.
Love reading every ones comments and questions, soooooooo helpful.

Where's Cheri's Newbie Website

I am VERY new to this website and and really enjoying reading all the great recipes and ideas/advise. I hope I posted this message in the correct place. I read an older 2002 post where Cheri had published on Geocities her website for newbie's that want to lose weight. I clicked on the link but website is no longer available. Anyone know if the website is still available or if it's moved?

Hi, everyone! I successfully used the Atkins Diet about 5 years ago. After gaining some of the weight back, and then rupturing my Achilles last year and gaining a little more, I'm ready to be on track again. Went shopping today to get the goodies. What's different this time is that I'm not doing it alone - I hope to share successes, failures, and meet new folks who are in the lifestyle.

I've never been a fan of the scale. For me, rather than it being a helpful tool, it becomes an obsession. I usually go by clothes size. I am just under 5'6" and a 16W, looking to be a size 10/12. My goal present: a pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans!

I'm not new to low carbing, but this is my first go at it using a forum for a support system. I'm sure most of you know how frustrating this lifestyle can be when you don't have support and encouragement. I have always lost weight fast on low carb but have trouble sticking to the plan long term. My heaviest weight was 372lbs about a year ago, I dropped down to 302lbs about 6 months ago and started slipping. I've been on again-off again through the holidays and went back up above 330lbs. I really need to get my weight under control and I hope visiting this forum frequently helps me stay on track. Nice to meet you all, Jason

Nice to meet you Jason, I definitely know how it feels. I don't have any support outside of these boards. So with the help of my fellow LCers, i'm staying on plan for LIFE this time. With support we can succeed in this. Good luck!

OK, I think I am here? This looks like the newbie thread....Is it? I started LC almost 2 weeks ago. I have lost 7 pounds so far (I'm OK with that) and I know I could do better. I know I have to start excersing. I seem to find so many other things to do rather than getting myself to move. I am under 5 foot and weigh 201 (now) my highest weight has been 214. Not kidding myself I know I look like a 4X4. I've had this weight issue all my life. Around my late 20's I got down to 114 and stayed there for years. Then about 15 years ago,(in my early 40's) I just started packing it on without ever looking back. I hated myself and still do for not doing this sooner. Enough crying over spilt milk. It is now, and the time is right. I'm in the mindframe to push myself. I'm now in my late 50's. I take the usual medication that comes with being overweight. Thru shear luck, I am not a type 2 dieabetic. BUT, if I continue to do nothing that will come also. Thanks for letting me rattle. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and holding hands as we all go down the path to getting healthy.

Noobie

Hello everyone! I've been lurking around this site for about a week now and decided to introduce myself!

I started LCing on February 9th and have been doing well. I came across this site on the 10th when I thought I was going crazy.

I attempted to do LC 3 times before my current attempt but could not get past the second day. I had horrible headaches, nausea, light headedness, and diarrhea, all which occurred this time but went away on the third day, thank goodness!

I'm a week and a half in to LC and I love it! I haven't craved sweets or been hungry since that third day. I think you will be seeing a lot of me. )

Just saying hi and reading as many posts as possible. Hopefully the support will help me get this excess weight off. Age may make it more difficult and physical problems limit exercise. But hopefully with your support I will persevere and reach my goal. I have been obese for 5-6 years and am having a hard time losing any weight.

Good luck to all of my fellow travelers.

I have been looking at all different low carb forums and I have to say that I find that this one is the best out there! This is the second time around on Atkins for my DH and myself and we have decided that this will definately be our woe for a lifetime. We only wished we had stayed with it the first time around.

Thanks to all who have made this site warm and welcome. I have already found that you all give the support that so many need to remain faithful on the low carb way of eating.

Hi

I did Atkins years ago and lost weight and then drifted back to bad eating habits. I started Atkins again 1 month ago--only lost 7.5 pounds the first month; however, I lost NOTHING in a year of low fat dieting and spent most of the time craving carbs. My cravings stopped completely after two days of induction, and I've lost inches, so I'm feeling very positive. I seem to lose for a week or two and then plateau for a week or so and then start again. Slow but sure. My goal is to lose at least 30 pounds by July when I go to a family wedding. I'm not telling them I'm dieting, so the new me will be a surprise!

Goals

Please redirect me if this is not the right thread for me.

I am trying to figure out if my goals are healthy and attainable. I am going to Bonnaroo in June and the less weight I carry around there the better! (Bonnaroo is a music festival on 700 acres. The majority of the 4 days you are walking in 90F+ heat.)

Started February 9th - 191 lbs
Today - February 22nd - 180 lbs
Goals:
March 9th - 170
April 6th - 160
May 4th - 150
June 1st - maintain 150 or lower

I am eating 15g carbs a day. I know it's not the scale that matters but I am new to Atkins and I'm just wanting to know from experienced peeps if it is too far fetched. Thanks!

Hi all from another newbie! :)

Hello!

My name is Kristen and I just turn 40 in November. I have been a yo-yo dieter from many years but this is my first time on a LC diet and I really need this to work. My husband I have been struggling with infertility FOREVER and we had our 5th IVF last November and it was negative. I have always been in the category of "unexplained infertility" because they never found anything wrong with me or my husband but my other 4 IVF's where when I was much younger (late 20's) and much thinner 170's.

Since I was on fertilty meds for so long, about 7 years, when I finally got off them, my weight seemed to keep rising steadily for 10 years. I am now at 233 and have been dx with PCOS. I have one more shot at IVF that my insurance with cover but the dr said I need have a healthy BMI before they will do it. He suggested doing the LC because of my PCOS so I am going to give this everything I've got to see how much I can lose before Nov. 2010 so I can still be 40 when I have my last IVF.

I have been reading everyone's posts for a few days and you all seem so very nice and supportive and I think I will really like it here.
