Donating blood for Joseph...info

Ok....we are in the process of setting up a national account through Carter Blood Center in Joseph's name...so that he gets credit for any who go in to donate blood or platelets in his name. I am amazed already at the response. I will post more info as it becomes available in order to participate in this. Thank you so much...every single one of you.

None of your blood will go directly to him....but he will get credited a bag for a bag per donation he recieves. Your blood WILL go to someone like him who desperately needs it and our family will not have to pay for the blood he is recieving because you will have replaced it with the blood bank.

DH is a Commit for Life member with Gulf Coast Regional. The donation bus visits the area offices every month and he's going to email the other supervisors and ask that all their donations be given in Joseph's name as well.

Is this a States only thing? Or is there some way Canada can be included?

I was wondering that about the UK. Even if I can't donate for him, I'll donate because of him.

If someone would be able to research setting him an account with the Red Cross that would be good...I don't know if they correspond with Carter Blood Centers or not in regards to credit...to be honest...the credit is not as important to any of us as just getting enough blood and/or platelets out there to take care of these sick kids. If you can't get us credit for it, that is okay. It will mean so much to me if you just do it with Joe-Joe in mind.

I called Stewart Blood Center here and was told as long as the patient's name, bday and the treating medical center is given most all donating centers can arrange the credit to be given.

I'm quite embarassed to say I never donated blood in my entire life. Now I want to, Because of Joseph. What would I have to do? Any health concerns that they don't let you?

Sorry I'm naive about this

Look up your local blood bank and make an appointment.

They will screen you before hand and tell you if you are able to donate.

If you have had certain health issues etc you will not be able to donate.

I have extemely low pressure so i am unable to donate blood. I would be willing to be tested for Bone marrow or anything else your little sweetheart needs. Joseph has so many prayers and good healing vibes coming his way, please know that. (((((Joseph)))))

Excuse me but that SUCKS!

I just gave blood less than 30 days ago with Carter. I'll have to wait a few more weeks but I will be thinking of Joseph in the meantime.

In CT they do not charge for blood. All blood is donated and given as needed at no charge. So I'm not sure if donating in CT you could request donating in someone's name.

I used to donate regularly and it since I worked near the blood center it was very easy. Just went down during my lunch hour and gave blood and they fed me lunch. Since I'm O neg they really liked me to come in and if I got behind they would often call and request I come in because of an upcoming surgery. For those that don't know type O is a universal donor, so they really appreciate having you donate.
