There is a lot of power in prayer. Your attitude and strength have been awesome. You are one amazing woman, and Joseph is blessed to have you as his Mother.

I can see where it could be confusing for some. Maybe the mods could change the name of this thread to gentlywind's personal update or something, maybe combine them?

Your thread is like a journal of YOUR feelings and that is the one that I go to. Maybe others have not seen it. When I saw that you were the last poster on this thread I immediately came to it.
Don't worry about it, we are all here to support you. Stormy probably came here because it is a "sticky" looking for the last update.
A candle is lit, as always for Joseph and your family.

I've been off the boards for a couple of weeks for our move, and I'm so shocked to see this and so sorry it had to happen to your little guy! It sounds like things will get better, and I'm happy to hear that. My best friend's sister had leukemia when she was 1 and survived, and her husband also was diagnosed with leukemia about five years ago and is still going strong. Prayers and hugs to your little man - so sorry he has to go through the awful treatment.

Thursday update

I am having trouble remembering what day it is. Has it been a week already?

Three more days of chemo and then the hard stuff starts. Last night just plain sucked and I am a train wreck today. I have gotten pretty much no sleep and that doesn't help things. He was vomiting violently last night and that in turn made me unable to rest even when he was resting. Every little move he made had me up, prepared to be there, to stroke his back, hold his head, hold the waste basket for him, etc. He also started hallucinating some last night and kept trying to pull off his wires and equipment. When I asked him what was wrong he told me he was "trying to get the leeches off". Took a while to bring him back to reality. He went out of it again, again pulling at his wires and tubing and told me he was picking the weeds.

I tried to stay home and sleep...no can do. Tried to break up with Joe this morning for no reason other than a general sense of exhaustion and pessimism, which thankfully he seems to have a grasp of and would not let me do it. I am wearing pajama pants at work and today falling into tears at the drop of a hat. I hate this. Hate being emotional where people can witness it. Hate not looking like I have it together. Hate it when I only curl half my hair and leave my home for work. I'm falling apart today.

Tomorrow is a new day. Tomorrow will be better.

Sheri- I don't post often anymore, but I look everyday for your updates and am thinking of your family everyday. You all WILL make it through this, there are going to be good days and bad. You seem to me like you are holding terrific under the circumstances. Keep hanging in there.

Aww Sheri... we all want to be perfect but ya know, we can't be...ever. Right now, you are doing EXACTLY what you need to do... be there for Joseph. If that means you wear pajama pants to work and have a bad hair day, then so be it. I am amazed that you are able to work at all. Kudos to you.

As for being very emotional, my guess is that the reality of the situation combined with lack of sleep is taking its toll on you. It will get better after you climb this little hill. Like you, I hate have someone else see me when I am an emotional wreck but so what? I am sure they understand and then some.

You really are holding up fantastically under the circumstances but most importantly, you are there for Joseph and being a huge part of the support system he needs to get through this... and he will.

My admiration for you started a long time ago but now I am in total awe of your poise and strength.

Don't worry that people see you when you aren't fully together... you're human. It's ok to lose it for a bit. If you didn't, you'd go crazy. Keep taking it one day... heck one hour, if you need to...at a time. You're an amazingly strong perosn, who is also human. ((hugs))

Please remember to take care of yourself. If you are a mess you will do joseph no good.

I remember my Mother having entire conversations with people that weren't there. Very entertaining sometimes but still scary.

ok..whew....most recent update...VERY good news.

Joseph is confirmed to have the Inversion 16 variation of AML. AML has seven different subcategories of varying resistance to treatment. Basically Inversion 16 is the BEST we could have hoped for

It is known to have good response to chemotherapy and has good long-term disease free survival rates after three courses of chemo. So we will be at this for a while longer...BUT.....it has a good chance of resulting in a cure.

omg, I am going to go throw up now.
