Can AML with inversion 16 be treated with Gleevec long term? My boyfriend has CML which chromosomal inversion [although I'm not sure which one off hand] and does great with gleevec. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so happy to see some good news for you and your son Sheri. Cancer for everyone involved is such a rollercoaster ride and the days with the highs are such a relief and mean so so much. (And having Emily there makes it that much more special)
Continued good wishes as well as hugs to all of you. And can I just say that those martinis sound sooo good! |

Saturday update
Joseph has fallen into fever and is not feeling at all well....this is the big danger now. No immune system means lots of opportunistic infections and the doc is bringing out the big guns, ordering massive doses of antibiotics. The chemo has torn up the lining of his stomach...frequent pains and nausea...two more days of it, then a two to three week break, then another round of even higher doses. My heart breaks for him having to suffer through this. The doctor this morning said he will still get a bone marrow transplant if one of his brothers is an exact match because that has the best rates of cure. If not an exact match, then just the heavy duty chemo, no transplant, as the cure rate is good with chemo for this type and the transplant comes with a whole host of other potentially fatal health problems. Emily got here yesterday and I had a very good "day off" with her. We napped in the sun and got ourselves brown, went and had pedicures done, went to dinner, considered a movie, decided we were too tired, so we watched one at home and fell asleep together on the living room floor. She's been a godsend. We get along like we've known one another all our lives. I love that. She is going out with AliMay today. I was going to go too, but since Joe-Joe is not feeling well I just can't bring myself to go. Yesterday was enough for recharging. I'll have dinner with Emily tonight when she gets back. Thank you for your continued prayers. My toes are pretty and I feel recharged. Last edited by gentylwind : 06-11-2005 at 08:55 AM. |

I'm sorry you aren't going to be able to go with us, but glad that having Emily there has been good for your spirit. You take care of Joe-Joe, and I'll take care of the Amazon. ![]() |

I'm glad you were able to have a day to refresh. it is hard to be around a family member ALL the time when they are so sick. I know it was good for my dad when my mom was so ill to have a break now and then. we had to MAKE him leave sometimes, but it was good for him to do that too.
I'm so sorry your little guy is so sick right now. I am tearing up for you (and him) as I type. it is hard to watch our kids hurt and know there is nothing we can do to make them feel better. ![]()

to you and Joseph. I'm glad you and Emily and Alimay are able to go out together. Getting away from the hospital for just a little while can help a lot. |

ROFL! Hey there hottie.
Today was a good day. I slept until about 9 after taking Emily to the airport at an ungodly hour. The apartment was too quiet with her gone. ![]() I had a good day. I went to the gym, did LBWO, then went to lunch with some girlfriends at La Madeleine, and now I am at the hospital taking care of Joe Joe. He is very sick. Fevers up to 102.9 today, unable to get out of bed, severe severe stomach pains that the pain medications are having a hard time breaking through. He's miserable. BUT he got his last dose of chemo through his central line this morning and gets one more tomorrow morning with the lumbar puncture (into his cerebral spinal fluid). Then no more chemo for a while. Two weeks and we'll see what his blood work does. What we need now is prayers for remission. If he is in remission we will soon know it. Emily, you are mahvelous. I loved having you here. Layla, that touched me more than you know. You should be my next visitor...please? Hugs everyone! |

As a mother, I know that the helpless feeling one gets while watching one's child suffer is almost unbearable. I know that you will have the strength to endure this for him.
I'm glad the first round of chemo is almost over, but I really hope they can make the poor child more comfortable. Glad to hear that you are sleeping. Are you eating? Remember that Joseph needs him Mommy to take care of herself so she can take care of him. Please post any whim of a thing that could help you through this time. We're all ACHING for something to do to help.
