I started a thread yesterday called "atkins is really low cal with no hunger". Mainly because so many people on this board have lost weight successfully and steadily by reducing calories because their appetite is controlled through ketosis.

On it I mention that I have never experienced the appetite suppression that many experience while on Atkins even when I eat well under 20 carbs a day. Kimmer suggested a 3 day experiment where I would eat no carbs and then I would find I would be in ketosis so deep I would have appetite suppression.

I'm trying it starting today.

Steak, ground beef, pork, bacon, hard boiled eggs, chicken, turkey, roast beef, that's what I stocked up on yesterday in preparation for my experiment today! It's going to be painful going without my coffee and cream and veggies. But here goes!

I'd followed a diet plan years ago that started out like this, I think it was Quick weighloss center's program if I'm remembering right.

You had a 3 day meatfast, any kind of meat but breaded. Needless to say after 3 days you DEFINATELY know when you are hungry. You aren't. You're so sick of meat you could happily eat grass.

After that you switched to controlled portion sizes of mostly lean meats such as boiled eggs, baked chicken breasts, baked fish. I think we had beef once a week. The rest of the menu was salads & 10 white grapes a day along with 1 piece of diet bread. Also we could have 1/2 a small potato or 1/4? or 1/2 cup of rice once or twice a week. The other veggies were low-carb (can't remember this list off the top of my head)

It was pretty low glycemic & I felt TERRIFIC, I wish I had stuck with it then because it was working. I was afraid of all the protein & all the rumors flying around even then about colon & stomach cancer.

You can also check out the Stillmans' challenge thread. Hunni usually posts the links...don't use the recipe one, just the guidelines for the stillmans plan. All you eat is lean protein...by the third day you are definitely in ketosis and have trouble eating at all.

Hey! Does this mean that all of you have not experienced appetite suppression? If so, it's interesting to see there are so many of us!

I'm doing ok so far, had 3 pcs bacon, 3 eggs, 6 oz roast beef, water and a diet coke. I'll have chicken breast tonight. I haven't been hungry yet, but I'm starting to feel twinges now. I may have to dig in to my boiled eggs I brought to work.

I think I want to try it, too... I "emotion-binged" today due to a bad experience at work and feel horrible - emotionally and physically. I don't know why so many of us use food for "comfort" but before I knew it, I was eating a brownie... thought it would just be that, and I wouldn't be hungry for the rest of the day, but - surprise, surprise - I was starving at 4:00... ended up at McDonalds... please don't beat me up over this - I'm doing it enough for all of us... So... I'm going to work out tonight, then I'm getting back on track with my eating starting tomorrow (I'm too sick to even think about eating anything else tonight)...

I have to say.... this board has come to mean a lot to me... the support is incredible... I know from experience that one day's failure is not "LC suicide", but right now, I'm just not real happy with myself. Being here with you guys reinforces that it will all be better tomorrow...

Don't know what's wrong with me... my PMS'ing time was a week or so ago... I am a very blessed person - just guess we all have bad days at work occasionally that get us down... I'll be fine... this too shall pass

I'm sorry you had a bad day. Food is comfort to many of us, unfortunate but true. It's not always easy to find something to replace it and sometimes we just slip up. But you have the right idea that tomorrow is a new day.

Eggs and mayo should be ok. But you wouldn't want any carbs-like celery/onion etc in it.

Latest from the FDA is that plain coffee has 0 carbs, not 1 carb.

Count me in on the challenge!

I ate less than a thousand calories today and am not hungry. Just finished dinner. I started this experiment yesterday.

That's a first. I was struggling on stillman's to stay into ketosis because I love, absolutely love cottage cheese and was overdosing on it (and it has carbs) at first. Then, I cut out the cottage cheese and realized all the hidden carbs in crystal light which I was drinking tons of it a day bringing my carbs up past 20 grams.

Stillman's is a great way to find those hidden carbs - and fitday helps, but my advice to any cottage cheese lovers out there is to leave the cottage cheese alone for these three days and watch out for hidden carbs if you are going to do this experiment.

I stayed right at 5 carbs today. Eggs, have some carbs. Even mayo has a little.

So 5 carbs is what I did today cuz of the mayo and eggs. But it is working and I read somewhere where kimmer said up to 5 carbs is what the 72 atkins diet revolution suggested which is what she did.

But certainly no more than 5 carbs to do this experiment so watch out for too much cottage cheese, mayo, eggs. Mostly meat is the best protein. Meat with zero carbs.

Ok... I'm in, then - I really can't handle eggs unless their deviled... I don't usually put onions in mine - just mustard and mayo usually...

I've heard of some putting horseradish in deviled eggs - #1 - does that taste good, and #2 Does horseradish have carbs?

Also, what affect will exercise have on this? Could it be that I still might not lose because I'm walking a few miles every day and doing a little strength training?
