LOL Thinner! The only way I ever ate tuna was in tuna noodle casserole and I certainly can't have that now!

I stick to deviled eggs and chicken breast....sometimes a burger and bacon.

Just depends on what I am hungry for that day! Right now I am on a deviled egg kick! LOL

What's going on?

Today is the 3rd day for me. But, I'm trying to figure out what's going on. My hunger has never gone away, completely. I know true ketosis is possible, because I've been there before. But, not this time...although, I'm thirsty all the time, and do have not a metallic taste, but a sweet taste in my mouth.

TOM is here....so maybe that's part of it? I originally thought that may be it, but I'm on day 4 of my TOM, and usually the hormones are back to normal, as is the hunger. Normally I'm very ravenous the week before it starts (which I was, I might add)

I can't get calories down to 1000, either. First day was around 1800, yesterday was 1600. I'm hoping I'm just getting less hungry as time goes on....

So, here's what I ended up eating yesterday:

B: 3 scrambled eggs only in 2 tsps of butter, 2 sausage patties (no sugars in it, so that's not it--all organic, too)
L: 2 grilled chicken breasts, 12 oz diet rite
D: More chicken, but roasted this time, with the skin on, half a breast piece, a leg and a wing. 12 oz diet rite and 20 oz tea.

100 oz water for the day.

Carbs were around 3 for the night.

I know that's a lot, but the hunger never went away, truly.

And right now, after eating 3 eggs and sausage again, and having 20 oz of tea, plus water, I'm still hungry.....

Edited to add:

I do know *something's* going on, because of all the peeing that I am doing during the night. The amount of water and other liquids is exactly the same before I started this. And I normally would get up once during the night. I'm now getting up at least 3 times.

Haven't weighed myself...the scale needs a new battery, and I haven't gone out and bought one.....I'm more wondering about the hunger issue, than weight, tho, right now...

Thankyou all for your replies~ you guys are great!

Quote:
That you're still hungry on Day 3 would tell me that you were "over" on carbs before you started and your body is still processing them. Your glycogen isn't depleted yet. Wait 2 more days, check your loss and wait for the appetite suppression.
Kimmer~ That would make sense as I did have more carbs over the whole weekend. So there is still hope for me!

Thinner~ I am going to continue 2 more days & if there is still no loss then the soda goes

Thanks again everyone!

This is an awesome thread! Unfortunately, I just found it today. This sounds like exactly what I need. I have been doing Atkins since January 18, and as of today have only lost 15 pounds. The last 2 months I have only lost about a pound and a half each month.

Thanks, Kimmer, for all the information. I'm going to give this a try. I was hoping to be down to 145 by my 40th birthday in September, but at the slow weight loss I've been experiencing, I don't believe I will get there. Maybe cutting out the salad/veggies will help. I can't start until tonight, as I already packed a salad w/chicken for lunch, and there isn't nearly enough chicken on it to hold me until I get home. I'll just eat chicken for dinner and water, water, water.

Umm... Are we supposed to be aiming for 1000 calories? I doubt I could go under 1600-1800... Please tell me we can just avoid carbs and not have to count calories...

No, not necessary to count calories. I've found mine decreased each day as my appetite decreased, but I had 1500 the first day. Yesterday was below 1000 because I had no appetite.

Kimmer (or any Kimmer experts ):

Is there anything in today's menu so far which I shouldn't be eating (or should be eating less of)?

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in canola oil

Lunch: One slice of a ground beef "quiche" I made by browning beef and pouring eggs over it until they set. The slice was the size of a pizza hut deep dish pizza slice (small but thick). I made a mixture of a little less than a tablespoon of mayo mixed with a squirt of mustard and spread this over the top to give it moisture. Is that okay? Should I avoid mustard? Was that amount of mayo to much?

Sorry to bug you over little details, but I want to do this right. Thanks!!!

P.S. Can I still eat more eggs in the evening if I'm hungry? Or would that be too many for one day? Figure I've had 4-5 already for the day. And can I marinate my chicken in soy sauce?

Bingo!

Don't count calories, don't cut back on quantities ... EAT if you're hungry!

But, NO CARBS ... not for the experiment anyway. Don't cave, don't "taste" ... no carbs!

Diny, eat eggs until they ban you from the store, LOL! Eggs are an incredible, edible food! Your "pizza" is perfectly fine. Watch for an appetite change when you wake up tomorrow ... remember, no carbs! If you can, skip the mustard and soy sauce for now. If you can't, use the least amount possible.

You're getting up 3 times a night? That's the closest proof you can have that ketosis is at your door! Hang in one more day ... tomorrow should be "no appetite" for you!

When we severely restrict carbs, our bodies (who DON'T want to use body fat for energy!), will go to the glycogen in our livers. When that's used up (3 days roughly), it's like a flood gate is opened and our bodies give up a lot of extra water ... that's the 3-7 pounds people lose in the first few days.

What that means is you're doing it right!!! Good job!

Well geez...I have every symptom of ketosis except that! I'm drinking my water at least 80 oz (will drink more!!!!) but I'm not waking up to pee...maybe that's why I've only lost 1.2 so far. Hmmmmm......

Excellent!

That is how I feel. This is the 2nd day for me - no wt. loss but, I feel good. I am not hungry! That is a miracle. Yesterday Iposted about having too many calories and 5 carbs. But, today, I just am eating when I am feeling that hungry growling feeling. I have had coffee, 2 bld eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and 1 can of chicken breast w/sm. amt. of mayo. YEA!

I just need to up my water. Hopefully, tomorrow I will see some pounds missing.

Only difference - when I exercised with Walk away the LBS. this am I was tired felt like I needed to stop. That is the feeling I get when I fast. So, maybe it's just the chemical change?

Anyway, Thanks Kimmer - you are so sweet and I appreciate your help with the calorie questions last night. You are right slowly the calories decrease as does the appetite!

Everyone - keep it up - it is coming (that awesome feeling). I have gotten so much done today!

Oops, sorry, I posted on the Challenge thread! Did you post that you've lost the 3.5 lbs of water you retained? That's what the 3 Day Experiment does ... get rid of water weight, get into ketosis, ditch the appetite. Now you're ready for "new" weight loss ... stay with VERY low carbs and you'll see it. I'll bet you see a substantial difference in your scale tomorrow ... IF you're staying carb free.

Kimmer, yes, I'm the one...(this thing running on 2 threads is getting flaky!!!) Yes, I'm staying low carb..2 carbs per day since Sunday (I only do an avg of 15/day normally, so didn't load on carbs before.)

I do have another question...I had the loss of appetite the 2nd day, and the energy, which continued on day 3. Day 4, I had appetite back this morning, have had about 550 cals so far today and 2 grams carbs-my hb eggs w/mayo this a.m-those will be my only carbs today. My appetite is gone again this afternoon, but I'm also having a real "fatigue" episode now...almost like the old crash after high carb lunches I used to have (I've always described as feeling like my head is full of wet concrete).

I'm definitely hanging in there through the week..sticking to this has not been a big problem to me, although I'm going to have to find some different meat options and fire up the grill tonite! If after a week of this, I'm still stuck, I'll probably be looking to you for more options or ideas. I appreciate your imput!

Mine come from eggs and small amt of mayo, and I've been able to stay at 3 or below (I'm not a big egg eater!) I know some are doing cream in coffee and get some from that. I've noticed some still using ranch and cheese, but it's really no allowed on this.

That sounds like a good plan to me... everything is trial and error- or atleast it sure was with me. And that's how I'd go about things... trial and error. If something isn't working- try to see if something is causing it and cut it out/cut down/etc.

For the one that mentioned about the peeing at night- it's a GOOD sign for the person who is going to pee more often at night but that doesn't mean it's a BAD sign that you are NOT going more often at night... not necessarily. You may just be like me and never get up to pee at night even when you're drinking water like crazy and/or even when you are 9mo pregnant with a baby kicking your bladder constantly. That wasn't bad then either.. I much preferred that over all the other pregnant women who have to get up to pee in the middle of the night.

Ok, I have another question. Kimmer said we could have diet coke if we were only eating meat. I am eating meat with 2 eggs per day (in the a.m.). I wonder if we could have Crystal Light instead of diet coke? I find I am not drinking enough water with the diet coke. And, honestly, dont' think I could do the meat fast without some sort of drink like that. Opinions?

Of course! But keep it to a minimum for the 3 days (or try what I do ... I mix a pitcher of Crystal Light and mix it with 0 carb flavored waters).

Just avoid anything identifiable as "carbs".

JackieO, for the 3 days, try to avoid the "extra" fats like mayo & dressing (if you really need it, go ahead). Avoid all cheese ... hey, it's only 3 days!)

Don't worry if you don't have to get up at night. It's an individual thing ... or maybe you're a secretary like I was and we've trained ourselves to hold it for 5-6 hours at a time, LOL!
