Hi everyone... I did a Meat Fast two weeks ago and lost 6lbs in 3 days. I ate meat and drank water... I did allow myself my one cup of coffee with 1 splenda and cream in the morning.. just couldn't give it up.... but I found that I felt great.. and not to mention the 6 lb loss in just 3 days!! That was the best part! I had been stalled a bit for a couple weeks and needed a boost... so i tried it... I entered everything into fitday and it helped alot.
I am starting it again today and had a question if anyone can answer I would be deeply grateful....Is there a calorie limit you should stay under or over on this 3 day fast? I had read that you should eat up to 1500 calories tops....but you should watch and make sure you aren't too low either... I did great trying to stay in between like 900 - 1100. Do any of you find it hard to make sure you get enough to eat? I know I wasn't hungry and had to remember to eat... (which was kinda weird all in itself) LOL
Thanks in advance.. and keep up the good work all!!!!

Mrssilly, we're not counting calories, however, the traditional Atkin's "fat fast" is 1000 calories a day. I think your range sounds terrific! And 6 pounds in three days is awesome!!

Thanks Rachel, I am ready to go at this once again.... I think I added things back to quickly the last time and that is where I stumbled....I am hoping to be at 50 lbs gone by this weekend.....I have 6.5 more to go till I reach that goal. Then I am halfway to goal.
Does anyone know how often you should do a Meat Fast like this? I was told by someone that it should only be used to get things started again after stalling for a long time.... sort of a last ditch effort type thing. Is it bad for you or is it unhealthy to do a couple times a month or whatever?

If you're keeping with ONLY protein & NO carbs, yes, drink diet soda until your eyes fall out of their sockets!

For 3 days, try to avoid the olives ... if you absolutely can't, keep to an absolute minimum.

LowCarbRachel, check your scale tomorrow ... a little bird told me you'll be down 3-4 pounds (weird for me to have a feeling like that, huh?)

Thank you everyone for the birthday greetings, it's very kind of you. I love my birthday!

SillyMom & HaleysNana, focusing on protein w/ naturally occurring fat, is perfectly safe for long term (Dr. Stillman was a medical doctor). Protein (with the fats they contain) will produce very rapid weight loss so you'll begin to add veggies & fruit soon. Of course, be sure to take a Centrum type vitamin each day!

Congrats to all the "losers"!

I make it a point to only weigh on Saturday when I wake up. Otherwise, I make myself crazy with the scale and I mean c-r-a-z-y!!!!

I normally lose at the slow, but steady rate of 2 lbs a week. Well, only doing the 0-5 carb thing for three days (started on 5-5-04), on Saturday I had lost 4 pounds since 5-1-04.

This week I plan on doing 0-5 carbs for 7 days out of the week instead of 3 days and see what happens.

But at the very least, I have doubled my usual loss rate!!! So I am very happy.

But here is a very interesting note. Because I was in such deep ketosis, I was THIRSTY and drank so much diet coke and water that my sticks didn't even turn mildly pink.

Yet I lost twice as much as I usually do in one week when the sticks are turning purple.

So the sticks don't hold too much significance for me anymore.

Thanks Kimmer

Thanks for the reply Kimmer..... I take a centrum type (walmart brand) and it is the Weight Smart one... with the green tea extract in it. Good to know that this fast could be used for more than 3 days. I am not a soda drinker, I love my water and I know I craved it alot when I did this 2 weeks ago. Now... how slowly do we add veggies back in after we have completed our fast? Is there some hard and fast rule of thumb like... 1cup on the first day, and then increase slowly from there? I don't want to end up gaining anything back or knocking myself completly off balance again. I think that was my downfall last time... I just rushed back in and ate veggies like before.
Thanks for all the info and help...
and BTW...... Kimmer!!!
Have a great day

Wow, if you lose slow I am THE turtle. I lose approximately 4 lbs. a month. I need to get things moving here!!! I would love 2 lbs. a week!

I started this last Thursday, had a few carbs - 5. But, I had some cream cheese that morning. Friday, I was good - all protein. So, today I have had a boiled egg and a pack of salmon - 3 oz.

Kimmer, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Read this and see the results!

I posted this on the challenge board, but thought it should be her as well:

have been doing this by the letter since Saturday, just meat, eggs, and drinks..oh a bit of mayo not much. I had ribs the other night, so its not just lean boring chicken breast. I have lost 3lbs since saturday, buts its the same bloody 3 I lose and gain all the time, if I can make into the 155 range I will be psyched.
So this morning before work I decide to try on a pair of pants from my "these pants have never fit and why am I keeping them" pile. I tried the same pair on last week, and of course no where near being able to close...wait for it...is it possible.... not only did they close I am at my desk at work wearing them now!! They have not cut off my circulation and are OK. Now, how can this be possible? Somehow my body has seriously deflated by just eating proten and nothing else for just over 3 days. Trust me when I tell you that I bought these pants 2 years ago, and have never once been able to wear them..except for today. I have been in a stall for ages, and really let myself go with fruit and veg. I am concerned about the lack of veg, but can not stop this experiment..what if this is the only guaranteed way to speedy loss? My pants are proof enough for me. I am in for as long as I can.

All the best

So... there is a possibility that I may not lose pounds, but could lose inches? Guess I'd better get the measuring tape out...

Do yo have a pair of pants that are to tight? That works much better for me then a tape measure. I am telling you that this biggest thing that has happened to me in over 7 months of nothing.
Good luck

The same thing happened to me. I lost 2 lbs on the 3 day experiment but, that was still 1 lb more than my lowest. I tried on some pants that didnt fit the week before and they were loose.

I tend to loose inches one week and pounds the next so maybe I have some good news comming to me next week....

I am hopping back into the experiment today for another 3 days after a 2 day break.

Shelly

I'm very curious what would happen if I were to eat this way (meat fast) Monday - Thursday every week, and ate less than 20 carbs Fri - Sunday......I don't want to do something that will backfire. Anyone know? Kimmer?

Questions~

1) If we're eating under 1,000 calories, won't our body go into starvation mode?

2) Why won't our body convert all that protein into sugars?

3) How long can u safely do the "Meat Fast?"

thanks~

Haley'sNana - This is first day for me - I'll have to see how it goes, but I was just wondering same thing, except I was thinking of Mon,TuesWed. ON & rest of week LC.

For those who like tuna:
I just had Starkist in Pouch - "Hickory Smoked" so good - you don't even need Mayo!!! Very Tasty by itself.

Why don't everyone post there menu each day????

Menu? Mine should win for the most boring so far! LOL

Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled w/3 slices turkey bacon
Lunch - deviled egg
Snack - smoked turkey if needed
Dinner - 2 eggs scrambled w/3 slices turkey bacon

I did put some pork ribs in the crockpot this morning so we'll see how they taste with no sauce.

Most menus are posted on the thread on the challenge board "3 day experiment". As for me, I just grilled several meats, boiled alot of eggs, and that's my menu until I'm done! That way I wouldn't be tempted to cheat for lack of choice.

I have a question....I see folks eating pepperoni and sausage...does that mean hot dog weiners and bolgona are acceptable also? Seems like they would be ok, if you count the carbs and don't go over 5??? But I guess that would be hard to do if you eat eggs too.

Can someone tell me how to cook a good steak inside? This has probably been covered before, but this looks like a good place to ask, given all the meat consumption here...LOL

So after this fast, do you gain back what you lost when you start adding in carbs again? Do you go back to induction for 2 weeks then start over, or can you go back to the level of carbs you were at? I'm thrilled to see such fast weight loss and VERY tempted to try this, but I'm afraid of the long term rebound!

I havent eaten less than 1500 during this experiment. No starvation here!

Your body almost never converts protein to suger. In fact, you will slowly starve on a diet of pure protein. Hence all the weight loss.

So long as you get all your vitamins and minerals, in theory you could go all the way to goal. Not permemnent of caurse, you would never stop lossing weight (see above comment re starvation)
