WOE: hmm...good question
Start Date: 1/20/04
As always, I am a bit confused (hey, I just noticed our new smilies!!). I would like to try this 3 day thing. Some of you are having eggs or cheese which have carbs. Is a small amount of cream with coffee okay? If fat is okay does that mean mayo is okay? Can you do this once a week? Once a month? Maybe these questions have been answered and I am not seeing it??

Kimmer suggested no carbs. But then she said eggs and a little mayo and diet pop were ok. She said no dairy. The idea is basically to keep carbs as low as possible, I'm finding I'm under 5 with the eggs and mayo.

So since I'm going by what Kimmer suggested I'm doing no dairy, which means no cream or cheese.

This started because a couple of us were saying we can't experience the appetite suppression that so many talk about. She said that if we tried this for 3 days we would go into deep ketosis which would bring about the appetite suppression which would take away the hunger which would mean I could eat less then I have been.

If this succeeds in reducing my appetite then I may add some veggies or I may go on, depending on how I feel. I don't really know how long you could do this as long as you were taking a multivitamin.

Have to just add this..

Even when I do stillman's..which is very veryvery low carbs (no veggies) I am still hungry most of the day. Yes..I am in deep ketosis..yes..I lose well..but with eating 600-800 calories a day..I'd be amazed..even with ketosis that I wasn't hungry. I eat 2 soft boiled eggs for breakfast (around 7 am) and by 10 I am very hungry. I'm one of those people that even when in deep ketosis..I am hungry 3 hours after eating.

Not saying ketosis isn't a big help..it is..but not everyone has no appitite even when in ketosis as I have heard several spout. It's a choice for me when on Stillman's..to do ir right..or just do atkins.

P.S. just want to add this..beause I'm seeing some confussing posts. Stillmans is not what kimer is advising. Because on Stillman's you can't use mayo.

Stillman's is very lean meat (so no skin) cooked with no oil (so steamed, crock pot or broiled) eggs and soft cheese (like cottage or pot..not cream cheese or hard cheese)

It does make you go into deep ketosis..as your getting very few carbs and low calories (600-800 calories on average is what to shoot for) but is a seprate plan then what kimmers 3 day plan look like from the original poster.

Yes, I have no interest in Stillman, And I also noticed many seeming to think that's what this was. So thanks for clearing that up! I love my fat too much.

It's interesting to hear that you get hungry on low cal even while in ketosis. It makes it a little more difficult doesn't it? The hunger is what bothers me the most when trying to lose weight. I can handle boring foods etc, but being hungry is a big problem.

new to me, but

this 3 day thing is new to me, but it seems like, if I was hungry in 3 hours, i would just eat some protein in 3 hours. for example, you mentioned your eggs for breakfast, well, if you are hungry again, why not be prepared with a chicken breast or some tuna? or maybe meat for breakfast--add some bacon or sausage to that egg meal.

I was very intrigued by the 3 day experiment because after 6 months of consistent losing, I had added some carbs and let myself coast a little. Still losing, but not as fast and I was ok with that. This is sort of a jump start for me to get to the end of my goal which is 30 more pounds by August, making a total of 100 pounds gone forever.

I am STILL out of ketostix, dh went to buy some for me today and they were out, said they sold the last of them yesterday. No more till next week. I find that is often the case around here, must be a lot of Atkins people in this area! But I know by how I feel that I am in ketosis--not very hungry and haven't cheated on the experiment.

I haven't made up my mind whether or not to continue tomorrow for the 4th day. I haven't even had eggs, so maybe I will add eggs and see how that goes.

I have enjoyed everyone's posts concerning this. It has been interesting to see my reactions and compare them with yours.

The idea of the 3 days is to have the absolutely LOWEST carbs you possibly can and still have your families able to live with you, LOL! Hence, yes, drink coffee & diet soda.

The point of the experiment is for you to see what ketosis feels like, the weight loss, the appetite suppression ... also, to go on from there to whatever plan you wish, KEEPING IN MIND that you MUST continue to keep your carbs very low or the appetite will come back.

Reminder ... check your weight loss for the first 2 days. If it's more than 3-5 pounds, you were over on carbs before and that's why you were maybe 'stalled' and/or hungry!

Yes, it is Stillman-esque, but normally occuring fats won't be that big a deal (as opposed to lots of mayo or cheese, during this 3 day period). No need to restrict quantities, if you're hungry EAT!

Anyone who 'carbed out' before beginning the 3 days will have to wait a few days more while their bodies process the sugar (had PMs about that).

Hey, don't rely on the sticks to tell you if you're in ketosis (stick addicts won't be able to help themselves, LOL!)

Check your scales! If you've lost weight (and I'm thinking 4-5 pounds or more ... yes, water weight, but who cares!) ... you're in ketosis!

Drink what your body tells you. I find that I'm more thirsty in ketosis (and I've noticed others posting the same on this BB).

Don't force liquids, drink what you need.

Thanks for getting me motivated

I'm a newbie to this board. Far from being new to dieting. It feels like I have been at this since I was a baby 40+ years. You would think by now I would get the hang of this. Anyway Thanks for getting me motivated again. After reading your posts I can do this. Kimmer your 3 day challenge is just what I needed to get started.

day 3

I have been going close to zero carbs as much as I can be. Am back in ketosis for the first time in months. Yay! I havent stuck 100% to the experiment ( have had a little cheese, cream and salsa, but I lost 2 lbs in two days and am very pleased so far. I had not realized just the dearth of hidden carbs I was taking in. (Fitday is a wonderful thing) until I cut them all out. So now I have been using the Torani syrup vs. the splenda packets (at one carb per packet and I use 5 ) in my coffee and living with much less cream. And now as of day 3 , not really hungry. Yesterday I felt kinda crabby (used the trunk monkey analogy ). Have been REALY thirsty all the time. But this morning I woke up and felt so serene and peaceful. And I wasn't Hungry! Thank you Kimmer for the suggestions. I don't want peanut butter or nuts right now. It really has rebuilt the willpower.

WELCOME TO 'REAL' KETOSIS!

I'm so happy for you guys (and the myriad of people who have PMed with so much excitement and renewed determination)!

If you keep your carbs VERY VERY low, you'll stay in this state of "no hunger" and rapid weight loss ... if that's what you want (not everyone does!)

Going to LC treats will almost guarantee your quick departure from Ketosis Central ... something to consider.

But, for everyone who did the experiment, now you know what 'real' ketosis feels like. You can decide whether to continue rapidly toward goal or ease up, add more carbs, and take the relaxed route.

Congrats to all the participants!!!

I made it past my son's wedding on Saturday and Mother's Day yesterday - so today is day 1 for me. So far I've had 2 scrambled eggs & 3 slices of turkey bacon. I brought a roasted chicken & 2 boiled eggs to munch on at work. I'll get 3 miles on the treadmille tonight and see what happens over the next 3 days. My plan is to do this Monday - Thursday every week for awhile...anyone know if that's good or bad?

I am on Day 2, heavily into ketosis, ate pot roast, drank sparkling water, coffee, and one Diet Coke yesterday. Had no appetite for anything else. Woke up hungry this a.m. and ate...you guessed it, more pot roast. Also woke up with incredibily clear thinking...had a really great idea for a project at work. Weight is the same at 140.

I've lost 6 pounds in 6 days!!!

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share my success. I've lost 6 pounds since Tuesday and boy am I excited. I'm in deep ketosis and it's great. I don't know which I found first the Stillman's Challenge thread or this one, but something finally clicked in my head that protein only was the way I needed to go. I've been trying to do Atkins since March but it just wasn't working right for me ( I guess I was over on carbs/calories). I was feeling so desperate to lose weight I was just about to make an appointment with the "fat doctor" to get prescription diet pills and I stumbled onto this thread. I am so pumped right now I just wanted to say THANK YOU KIMMER and HAPPY BIRTHDAY You are a wise and wonderful woman.

Ironic

What I rely on when traveling is the tuna and salmon pouches. Get a fork and you are set. They are 3 oz. size.

Edit: I wanted to add...they also have chicken pouches.

How much diet coke is allowed? I consider that a treat and would be great to take with me tomorrow... but I don't want to screw up the challenge by having too much.

fry up some strips of bacon until crispy and then break them in half. I've figured that 5 strips of bacon is 200 calories (check your brand)

you can also fry hamburgers, let them cool, and then cut them into pieces

Or grill chicken or steak and slice it into pieces

on this particular plan, we are not limiting Diet Coke

That doesn't mean I'd personally drink a case of it
