Such smart people on this BB!

Folks, this is the FASTEST way into ketosis ... and, yes, avoid the Stillman 'recipes'.

I've gotten 4 PMs today from people excited that they're already in ketosis with zilch, zippo, nada, absent ... appetite!

I'll leave it to them to post their weight losses, if they desire.

Reminder ... weigh yourself on Day 2. If you've lost more than 3-5 pounds, you were over on carbs before.

Chamberm, you will lose even more if you're exercising (you'll also achieve ketosis faster because your body is yanking the glycogen out of your liver!) It's a good thing!

After the 3 days, you can either stay on protein ... or transition to Atkins Induction (or whatever program you're following).

You need to keep your carbs very low after the 3 days or you'll get out of ketosis!

I get so excited when people are "losers"!

From a health standpoint, you would be OK as long as you take supplements to compensate for the veggies/fruits you aren't eating ... ditto on straight Atkins or Stillman's.

You want to begin adding veggies when you're within 20 pounds of goal so you can practice making food choices and not be overwhelmed.

You're welcome!

The thing with pure protein diets or very low carb like Atkins or water fasting, is that, of course, you're depriving your body of valuable vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients ... but those programs are intended to be VERY, VERY quick weight loss programs so your body does without veggies for a relatively short time.

Enjoy!

Do you think the water fasting is a good thing to do? My thing is that I was doing good for a while but then I gave in to sweets (which is my main problem). So I'm trying to find something that will benefit from eating what I suppose to not eat. I want to try the water fasting but I think I will try the protein first. What you think

While I don't advocate water fasting for weight loss, I think fasting is a very valuable experience for self awareness. I still recall from my first fast 20 years ago, thinking on Day 3 "hey, I haven't had ANY food for 3 days and I'm not dead!" And the energy!

Keep in mind if you water fast you're going to feel like #%^@ for the first 3 days as your body switches to body fat for fuel while simultaneously deep detoxing! Read the "30 Day Detox" thread for our personal experiences ... and complaints, LOL!

Protein will definitely produce a good loss, only slightly less than water fasting.

Both methods help break food addictions (you'll never be soooo glad to see broccoli again, LOL!)

Both methods will produce the DEEPEST ketosis your body is capable of ... watch the scale go down, down, down!

Caution: Anyone who's a Type A personality probably won't do well with water fasting (relaxing and giving up control are important to the experience).

If you've never water fasted before, it will be interesting for you. Assuming you're in good health, you should be able to do a week without a problem ... just remember how lousy you're going to feel the first few days (and your skin may do totally weird things!)

Ok, You all are really twisting my arm here I am in. I make this breakfast casserole that has eggs, cheese and corn beef in it so I can continue to eat something like that for breakfast and maybe some tuna salad, left over dinnner meat etc for lunch and meat for dinner. I am up for the 3 day challenge and even longer if I still like it after 3 days, since you can do it up until 20lbs from goal. So who is gonna get the challenge started? We should post our minus too just for ideas to keep going. Isnt Kimmer Great!

Okay you've convinced me. I have my son's wedding rehearsal tonight and the wedding tomorrow...then I can finally get to the grocery store. So Sunday morning will start day 1 for me. I'll weigh every day for 3 days and see how it goes. Please, please, please let this be the kickstart I've been needing!!! Are we going to have a thread on the challenge board or stay here?

So the idea is to get into deep ketosis by eating nothing but meat for 3 days and then slowly adding in veggies again? Like a serving of lettuce once a day? I'm a getting this?

Just one question...what about all the worry over eating too much protein and it converting to glucose. Does that matter here?

I think I might start using this method when I put on a couple of pounds and feel my appetite is getting out of control. Usually I do the yogurt fast but lately when I do it I get so dern hungry and weak.

Don't eat until you get hungry (mildly hungry, don't wait until you're starving!)

I got 2 PMs from people who are "hungry". EAT!!! Snack on more HB eggs, make an omelette, fry up a steak, throw some chickie pieces on your Foreman grill ... eat! The appetite suppression is coming, honest!

Don't cave in with a "taste" of carbs. You'll be back at square 1. Again.

Don't worry about the protein/glucose conversion. Want proof? Look at how much you'll lose in 3 days.

Note to the 'hungry' folks. This is a sure sign that you were over on carbs before. Everyone keep in mind that your body DOES NOT want to convert to body fat for fuel! Your body always wants to take the easy route, which is sugar (carbs). This is why when people first do Induction (or this 3 day thing), they feel tired, cranky, have cravings ... their brain is sending a HARD message that it wants fuel, NOW. Those who stick with Induction without caving in are rewarded with ketosis, weight loss and reduced appetite ... their bodies have SUCCESSFULLY converted to burning body fat! Now, those folks who 'relax' on weekends send their bodies back to Square 1 and cravings. These are also the people who 'feel better' after eating carbs and mistakenly think their bodies 'need them'. Wrong. Their bodies wanted sugar and they obliged ... vicious cycle.

Anywho ... if you're hungry, eat! Just avoid ANY and all CARBS!

Poooh, no cheese! Protein only.

Haleysnana, congrats on the wedding! I'm sure you're going to enjoy the day (and the reception ) ... just keep in mind that your body will have to purge those extra carbs so you might not have the same dramatic weight loss or appetite suppression (will take a few more days).

Thanks Kimmer....but I'm eating the cake, at all! I just didn't want to have a headache and be cranky tomorrow so I figured I'd start on Sunday instead. I had my meltdown last weekend and ate carbs for 24 straight hours Monday and paid dearly! I will NOT repeat that mistake ever again! I can't eat beef, so I'm planning to eat chicken, turkey bacon, eggs and sausage for 3 days. Does that sound right?

Thanks Kimmer...for everything! I tried to see your pics in the gallery for inspiration but my computer won't let me pull them up for some reason. I know I need to lose at least 20 lbs, but to be honest I'm having to fight for every ounce and lately I've just become so darned discouraged! I have to eat this way for health reasons, but it sure would be nice to lose weight in the process. I'm just so tired of feeling like no matter what I do my body just won't respond.

Your body will respond ... in just 3 days! Wait, maybe a couple longer because of the wedding, but it will! In the absence of carbs, the body will burn its fat stores. That's a biological fact. It has no choice!

What is weird, is that when you're losing weight it seems we need to keep carbs low ... when we're at goal, we can eat higher carbs and not gain. Go figure!

And, unpleasant as it may be , the older we are (I'll be 46 on Monday) ... the less we're able to eat, not to mention the closer we get to goal because of less body mass.

Exercise on a daily basis will allow us to eat more (not that I'm rushing off to a spinning class or anything, LOL!)

What you might find is that you need to permanently stay higher fat/protein and very low carb (real carbs, not the 'net' trap). Still, not a bad way to live!

I trust you...and I'm definitely going to do this 100% and am so excited to see the results. Thanks again for the insight. I'll be 45 in August and its terrible the changes our bodies go through, isn't it? LOL Now that you have set me straight on eating for a 45 yr old, I need you to design a skin care regime that will get rid of this late life breakouts and skin that's losing its elasticity in my neck! Ohhhh to be young again!

And If I look at another piece of meat, I'll puke. But I guess it's a good, cause I sure don't want to eat. Ketosis is kicking in faster than I thought.

menu so far today:

2 boiled eggs
8 oz steak

8 oz steak again for lunch.

already at 64 oz water, but I don't feel waterlogged, instead I am actually still thristy. Going back for more.

The first day I did a water fast , yesterday I had chicken and eggs
the same today. I still have a little cravings , but nothing like
before. I weighed 169 on wed. morning and 164 this morning.
I weighed 147 right before Thanksgiving need I say more. I did QUIT SMOKING one month and three days ago. I hope I can get this eating problem under control. Thanks BB .Chryl
