I posted yesterday that I wanted to start. Then I get a phone call that my hysterectomy is in 2 weeks. So I'm thinking of starting tomorrow and doing until the 22 of Feb., then restart 2 weeks after surgery.

Kimmer do you think I should do this or wait until after the surgery?

Kimmer, is this how you lost weight or the Atkins 72 plan...or? What are your thoughts about needing 30 carbs a day for t3 thyroid conversion...do you feel what you have done could have messed with your thyroid?

Is the key staying under 5 grams of carbs for this? I am thinking of doing this just for 3 days to break through my plateau...but I am just wondering about rebound weight gain.

My only problem is that I don't want to give up my 1/2 and 1/2 in my coffee.

GardenMom - I am hypothyroid, and am very curious to see whether I lose on this or not....I SO hope I do. I plan to stay on it for only the three days.

Ignore it. Yes, I know it's hard, but when you "feed" a craving, you perpetuate it.

If you're desperate, how about freezing some Crystal Light or diet soda, toss it in the blender and make an Icee?

Kimmer, great idea! I would've never thought of freezing a sweet drink and making an icee type thing out of it! You are truly full of wonderful ideas

One more question: (Sorry!!) I am currently calorie cycling. I have 3 days 'up' (2 days around 1200, 1 day around 1500), and 2 days down (around 800 or 900). This has been working exceptionally well for me. I've lost 5 lbs in the last 10 days alone! Anyway, my question is this: on my calorie 'up' days, do you think it would work just as well if I do my 3 'up' days as all protein days? Then do my 2 down days as protein + a few veggies thrown in? Would this screw up the idea of this too much or ?

Thank you again! You are truly inspiring, and are tireless in your answering questions! Your insight is much appreciated

I lost my weight by doing Stillman's for 3 days (this 3 Day Experiment is the same thing) to get rid of my appetite, then using the guidelines in the '92 DANDR which limited veggies to 3 cups of salad type or 2 cups + .5 cup cooked higher carb types like broccoli.

As you'll see, when you lose your appetite, you don't want to eat. Not just on this thread, but read other threads about being not hungry, loss of appetite, "is it OK", etc. I enjoyed the recent thread about eating cold meat because during my weight loss phase I got really, really good at eating cold food ... couldn't finish a meal at one time!

I wouldn't dare contradict anything Nonstickpam says, she's so very knowledgeable about hypo. I've been hypothyroid since I was 16 when I was so tired I literally couldn't get out of bed. I always felt more lethargic than my brothers and sister, but my dad wasn't real big on doctor visits ($$). I suspect I was hypo long before being diagnosed because everyone in my family is tall (brothers 6'6", 6'5", sister 5'10") and I'm only 5'6" (OK, probably 5'5.5"!)

Keeping in mind Nonstickpam's posts and links, wouldn't this data be brought to light by doctors who prescribe very low calorie programs to their patients (Optifast - 500 calories), or anyone who follows a diet from a magazine, some of which are 1000-1200 calories? I dunno. I'm not a medical person and I'd have to question the 30 carbs. Is that total or net? According to what measurement? Was this during hospitalization with a dietary staff tracking the carbs?

You'll definitely break your plateau (so does hard boiled eggs for 3 days) but the key is keeping carbs under control afterward. I think there's a psychological rebound effect on restrictive diets. Not only the 3 Day Experiment, but low carb in general. Not everyone is willing to commit to a life time of drastically cutting back on French toast, garlic mashed potatoes or fried rice.

Glad you liked the slushee idea! It works also with iced coffee (granita in Italy). I do slushees and popsicles with diet drinks, especially during the summer!

I think doing very low carb or protein-only on your "up" (or your down days!) would only enhance your loss. You won't screw up anything and be SURE to get those veggies!

Thank you for being so nice!

After surgery.

Right now you should focus your eating on providing as much nutrients as you can to build up your nutrition stores in your body to help with healing afterward ... especially considering hospital food. If you know the hospital, check ahead for what menu options are available. Maybe they'll have low carb or something you can work around (nothing to be gained in healing with a serving of white rice or tapioca pudding!)

Good luck, heal fast!

Just as with sweets, this is a good time to break our addictions ... even the ranch dressing!

For 3 days you can do it.

Why have you only eaten a hamburger patty? If you're hungry, eat! If you're not hungry you won't miss that ranch dressing, LOL.

Is cheese a no-no on the protein fast simply because it's high calorie?

I'm not talking about processed cheese or cream cheese. I'm talking about cheddar, jack, etc.

OK I've got a question for Kimmer now

I know if we are hungry to eat, but I'm just not hungry (LOVE IT!), but should I just slide through and not eat at all?? I know we are to listen to our bodies, but I'm thinking I'd NEVER EAT I think at this point I could live on water and coffee

Thank You so much for all this info!!

Day two here. I'm getting hungry now, so I have to fix something. I hope I have some tuna in there otherwise, it's chicken breasts.

Brk. 1 hb egg 9:30 wasn't hungry until 2:30
lunch 2 hb egg
2 diet cokes with lime, 2 cups of Caramel truffle flavored coffee and 100 oz of h2o so far.

I hope to see the 160's at the end of the experiment.

Kimmer, you laughed at the exercise comment, does that mean you didn't exercise at all losing all that weight? Just curious. How does this rapid weight loss affect skin??? loose???

thank you

I had a ball reading all these new posts

Some of you have a rather sick sense of humor!

Today I ate a 6oz link sausage and three drumsticks. 3 cups of coffee and untold amounts of diet coke.

I am cooking a roast for dinner. I put some onion powder, garlic salt, and pepper on it. I usually use onion soup mix, but I didn't know if it had flour in it and I was too tired to read after catching up on this thread!

Obsessive person that I am, my ketostick was light pink. Better than the tan from the Dreamfields!

Kim

wow kimmer! Your weight loss is unbelievable! You have goddess like status as far as i am conserned. i know you dont know me but i have been a learker for some time now and have loved all your contributions.
It is so awsome to have stumbled upon this thread. I have been doing stillmans for 3 days now, thanks to some of your past posts. You are right about the loss of appetite...its the best feeling to be able to just say no thanks.
Anyway, last night i was thinking about gradually uping the carbs to get to 20 total over the next four days and then go back to strict stillmans after the seventh day and repeating this cycle weekly until goal. kinda like the three day plan you are talking about only 3 days of stillmans and 4 days of graduated 72 atkins.
It just seems like if i do only stillmans my weight loss could slow so i am hoping that this will continue to jolt my system and continue the loss. Does this sound good to you?

Thanks a bunch,
jen

Marie,

Yes, it's highly discouraged, I was trying to find out why. I'm not sure if it is because of calories, carbs, or difficulty with portion control.

Yes, I think that it is a no no. Mainly just meat, eggs and some fats to cook with. I do think mayo is okay in small amounts.

I am with you on this one. I think that my husband is tired of hearing about it

I have a question about boiled eggs: how long do they keep when not peeled, peeled and as deviled eggs? I do appreciate it. Thanks

Kim,

To get into deep ketosis, your body changes it's main fuel from carbs to fat. Many people have headaches for a couple of days.
Sugar withdrawal can also cause headaches. A temporary condition for most everyone.

As far as feeling icky, many people will have a bit of constant nausea while in deep ketosis. Some can handle it, others choose not to.

Yes- I knew it would do that if I was just starting out but Ive been on 20 carbs or less for awhile now.Of course I did eat slightly off plan on Monday due to my DH b-day so in reality I could be having sugar withdrawals again

This has been great to read. I am starting my 3-day tomorrow. I too have been under 20 grams of carbs, yet had trouble on my dh's birthday Tuesday. Hopefully the headache won't come, but I will have my "aleve" closeby.

Good luck to everyone who is doing this.

I am off to hardboil some eggs. Will post menu tomorrow.

Well, this meat/egg fast might not be for me....the just meat and eggs are starting to gross me out...I definately need more variety..maybe the 72 Atkins would be better.

I don't know...I also have a cold and feel like crap...so I will see what tomorrow will bring.
