Is all dairy off limits??

I'm trying to get started on Paleo. The way I understood it was NO DAIRY.

I keep seeing paleo recipes that use butter, cream or cheeses.

What's the deal? I'm confused.

Primal eating, which is a somewhat looser interpretation of primal, allows some dairy. If you take a look at the Primal Blueprint website, that is some guidance there.
I'd post a link, but do not know if its allowed.

If you do the whole30 challenge, it's strict Paleo and doesn't allow dairy. I think it all depends on your body, if your not lactose intolerant, I don't see the problem with being a lacto Paleo eater (when I'm not strict, I have dairy too).

Mark's Daily Apple is a Primal site. A lot of great info there...

I once read a quote that Dairy (and Rice/Potato) cause paleo folks much more mental angush than physical issue. LOL

Dairy is not technically Paleo. It will also stall you unless you're in the minority. It is also a gateway food in that it'll creep up in quantity and often make you add other things that you wouldn't eat (natural sugars, starches) and for MANY people, the proteins in dairy pose an inflammatory issue.

My advice is cut it out for 60-90 days completely. Then, add in some full fat dairy made from raw organic milk and see how you do. If you want to be "strict" Paleo, then dairy isn't allowed. However, evaluate your own personal reasons for doing Paleo at all, and then ask yourself if dairy can fit in your plan.
